If you've been eagerly awaiting a smarter, more convenient way to interact with Gemini Live on your Android device—well, your patience is about to pay off! Say goodbye to endless app switching and digging through notifications, because a highly requested feature is rolling out at last.

No More App-Hopping: A Floating Action Button Arrives

You’ll soon no longer need to stay inside the Gemini app or dig through your notifications just to access Gemini Live's controls. Enter the new floating action button, which is currently rolling out to the Android version of Gemini Live. This handy button makes managing Gemini Live's features smoother—and a lot less of a scavenger hunt.

What’s New: The Floating Action Button (FAB)

The biggest change in this update is the introduction of the Floating Action Button—yes, the famous “FAB” as techies like to call it (and, as Shakespeare might say, “A button by any other name would work as sweet”). This neat utility will follow you across your Android device’s interface, always ready to help, wherever you are.

Unlike the previous static interface, the new floating button can even be repositioned wherever you want on your screen. Want it in the top corner, or cozy at the bottom? The choice is yours. A flexibility that's been missing until now!

All the Controls, Right Where You Need Them

So, what can this magic button do? With the new FAB, you can:

  • Toggle your microphone on or off
  • Switch to video mode
  • Share your screen with the AI assistant

Best of all, these controls are accessible from anywhere. There’s no need to fish around in your notifications just to manage Gemini Live on the fly.

Release Status: Rolling Out Gradually

Now, before you jump for joy and start searching for that shiny new button, there’s a catch: Google (the Mountain View firm, as ever) hasn’t officially announced when the new interface will be available for everyone. However, several users have confirmed they’ve already received this update on their Android devices. Following an initial test from June 2025, it seems Google is finally ready to push the new interface out to the masses.

For those who don’t see this option yet, there’s no need to do anything special—it’s being rolled out progressively on the server side. We haven’t seen it show up yet on our Pixel 10, but it shouldn’t be much longer. Don’t hesitate to let us know in the comments if you’ve already got it, and on which device.

If you’re playing the waiting game, hang tight—no special tweaks or settings are needed, as the feature is being unlocked gradually in the background. Until then, keep an eye on your interface (and maybe your notifications, just this one last time).
