Back in April HTC announced that the DROID Incredible would get the Gingerbread update by early summer, but it looks like that plan has been scrapped. In an email conversation with a user, an HTC rep said the following:
“We only update our phones if it will provide an overall improved user experience as we balance features, performance and usability. Because of this, we will only be updating certain phones to Gingerbread. At this time, the Droid Incredible is not on that list.”
There are already custom ROMs available for the Incredible that are based on Gingerbread so the phone should be able to run it. It sounds like this is a similar issue to the Desire in that HTC Sense is in the way for updating the Incredible to Gingerbread. They got it done with the Desire, but it is a half-baked way of doing an update. It is probably something that they did not want to do with the Incredible. Assuming this was the case, I am sure Verizon Wireless was against it as well.

Yeah adamvm,I feel the same way.my Samsung captivate hasn’t receive gingerbread yet and I really don’t want to put a Rom on it due to the fear of bricking it and it seems too complicated to perform.I’m also looking at the iPhone since I had an iPhone 3g beforehand and i like the ios platform since I have a iPod touch.
Its sad that people have to root and mod their Androids to get the updates that Google wants them to have. As much as I like my Android I think next upgrade I’m jumping off Android and the pick and choose update train. And here ai thought HTC was one of the better ones for updates
CyanogenMod7 or MIUI will take care of their Gingerbread woes.
