Samsung has been spotted placing the Galaxy Z TriFold device behind glass at the K-Tech Showcase in Korea. As the name implies, it opens twice to create a tablet-sized canvas in hand, then folds back into a compact phone.
The hinge engineering appears dramatically improved, and early observers noted the absence of a visible crease. Rumors continue to point toward Snapdragon 8 Elite hardware as the company reportedly plans a limited regional release. It will start with their home market, China, and the UAE.
See the three-part Galaxy phone in all its glory
I still struggle to buy into the glorification of foldables just because they fold. We already solved big screen devices with a small footprint problem ages ago with the introduction of tablets. There’s still no everyday use case that universally justifies the price and fragility risks of a phone that bends. A TriFold is another iteration of the same idea.
But that’s not to dismiss the engineering that Samsung has clearly poured years into hinge durability. Rumors around it have been circulating for a while, and the device is finally here.
Samsung revealed it to the public at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit 2025. It’s expected to launch with the name Galaxy Z TriFold, and is roughly the size of a 10-inch tablet.

The hinge engineering looks creaseless and each panel apparently houses its own battery module around 4,400mAh. It's a smart move considering how power-hungry multi-panel OLED can be, especially on a phone of this size.
A global release is not out of the question
Although there's not much revealed about the TriFold’s specifications, observers did notice that the device is fully roughly 4.2mm when open. That’s comparable to the Galaxy Z Fold 7 when it’s unfolded, which means they somehow managed to keep the thickness consistent even with an extra folding section.
When it’s folded shut into phone mode, all three layers stack on top of each other, so the thickness reaches 1.2cm to 1.5cm. It's way more chunky than a normal slab phone, but it's expected. I can imagine the awkward feeling in hand.
The rollout will be a conservative one as Samsung is sticking to a very limited volume. They'll make around 50,000–200,000 units with pricing around ₩4 million (~$2,800). It's almost double the cost of the Galaxy Fold 7. The official launch won't happen until 2026.

It's a small release indeed, but a cautious one, given how normal Galaxy S-series flagship ships in the millions. The regular Fold line sells hundreds of thousands to over a million units per model annually. Yet understandably so as unconventional always comes at a cost, both financially and in public perception.
Samsung has been here before, and recently too. The first Galaxy Edge hasn't performed impressively and so the company is keeping the Plus model of the S-series they planned to replace it with.
That aside, the TriFold has appeared in official Bluetooth certification. It has six model numbers, and the different codes suggest it will be released in multiple regions afterall. Two of those model numbers look like international versions, which could include Europe, Taiwan, and Singapore.
