The core functionality of a pair of earbuds is to play music. However, every pair of earbuds can do that, so it comes down to other factors to help you make your choice between one model and another. For instance, what's the sound quality? Are they comfortable to wear? Can they block out the noise of a train or plane?
Those are solid criteria, but in the modern age of smart devices, one thing that can help set a pair of earbuds apart from the competition is whether they support a smart assistant. In the Android space, Gemini has been limited to Google's own Pixel Buds, but finally, you'll be able to conveniently call on the AI chatbot from your Galaxy Buds 3 Pro.
Samsung's Galaxy Buds 3 Pro Are the First Third-Party Earbuds to Get Gemini Support

Google is a cheerful giver in the smartphone space. Despite being the company behind Android and having its own hardware for smartwatches, earbuds, and smartphones, it shares a lot of its new tech with the other brands (even if there is sometimes timed exclusivity). Gemini is something Google could have chosen to gatekeep, but instead, it spread the AI chatbot across Android.
Gemini is currently available on all Android smartphones, and just today, its rollout to Wear OS smartwatches was announced too. However, in the earbud space, it has been limited to the Google Pixel Buds and none other. Thankfully, that's about to change.
Earlier this year, Google announced that it had plans to let more third-party earbuds use Gemini, and it has made good on that pledge. The AI chatbot has found its way to the Galaxy Buds 3 Pro, and we know this thanks to a new option spotted by an eagle-eyed X user. Now, you can use an activation keyword like “Hey Google” to activate Gemini through your earbuds. However, the feature may currently be limited to One UI 8.
More Third-Party Earbuds Will Be Upgraded With Gemini

Before you find yourself saddened that Google didn't share the feature with your earbuds, it's possible that it may only be a matter of time, as the company made it clear that it planned to expand the feature to both Samsung and Sony earbuds. Here are a few models that I think we can reasonably expect to see get support in the future:
- Samsung Galaxy Buds 3
- Sony WF-1000XM5
- Sony LinkBuds
For now, we can only speculate. We'll have to wait for Sony, Samsung, or Google to make it clear when the time comes. Or, like this case, maybe it'll be a consumer that clues us in on the situation.
The Galaxy Buds 3 Pro Are Great Earbuds That'll Be Even Better With Gemini

The Galaxy Buds 3 Pro might not have a design that's for everyone, especially with how big of a departure it was from the stemless design of the Buds 2 series. However, if you can get past that, you'll be left with very solid earbuds.
