If you stay in tune with the current trends of the youth, you might have heard of the term “brain rot”, which encompasses funny but pretty much nonsensical internet words and trends. It's hard to explain, but you know brain rot when you see it. OnePlus acknowledging brain rot was certainly one thing I didn't expect.

OnePlus is planning to launch the OnePlus Nord 5 on July 8th, and to emphasize that the device is best used for creating and not mindlessly consuming, it is launching a little first-person web game called Brain Rot Blaster. As you might imagine, you're blasting away brain rot, in the form of toxic internet trends like conspiracy theories and negative news.

OnePlus' next phone release is scheduled for July 8th, when it will launch the OnePlus Nord 5 and the OnePlus Nord CE 5. The OnePlus Nord 5 is the more anticipated of the two and is confirmed to come with flagship-grade cameras, perfect for creating content and capturing memories. The device should supposedly be so great for creators that OnePlus wants to encourage you to make things this summer, not just consume them.

OnePlus wants you to rethink the time that you spend online, fully acknowledging how many people mindlessly scroll social media and video apps daily—the OEM says that the average Brit spends 96 minutes doomscrolling every day, whether you're being drawn in by reality TV drama, negative news, or conspiracy theories. OnePlus wants to help defeat doomscrolling.

To achieve this, the OEM will be releasing Brain Rot Blaster, an online first-person shooter, sometime in July. In the game, you proceed on your “last doomscroll” to fight toxic internet trends like “Blockchain Bro”, “Tin Foil Hat”, and “Neg News Readers”, using the magnificent weapon that is the OnePlus Nord 5 to zap them out of existence. Oh, and the game self-destructs after one play, too, to encourage an end to doomscrolling.

OnePlus wants you to understand that its upcoming device isn't built from the ground up for constant doomscrolling and mindless media consumption. It wants you to get out there, up your game, and actually create things for the world, especially with two flagship-grade cameras in tow. It says it is the perfect device not just for creators, but gamers and multitaskers too.
