Apple users have had one over Android users for the last few years when it comes to wireless charging. MagSafe doesn't just save you a few seconds when placing your phone onto its wireless charger, but it also opens up an entirely new ecosystem of accessories for your device.
Rumor has it that Samsung is planning Qi2 wireless charging for the Galaxy S25, and a newer rumor makes that seem even more likely, as it seems like the South Korean OEM is planning some first-party magnetic accessories to get the party going. Let's talk about what we know.
The Samsung Galaxy S25 Series Will Support Magnetic Wireless Charging, In One Way Or Another
The Samsung Galaxy S25 series is fast approaching, and it is expected in about five weeks from now. As smartphone launches always go though, we've been hearing leak after leak as that release date approaches, giving us some insight into what we should expect next from the biggest Android manufacturer in the world. For the most part, there hasn't been much to be excited about.
Until recently, that is. A newer rumor claimed that the Samsung Galaxy S25 series is going to support the Qi2 standard, and that potentially (but not necessarily) means that it is going to come with magnetic wireless charging. That would make it the very first Android flagship—and the second mainstream Android release after the HMD Skyline—to support magnetic Qi2.
However, for some reason, a lot of manufacturers don't seem to want to embrace the Magnetic Power Profile of the Qi2 standard and it seems that is most likely to remain the case for Samsung's next flagships. Instead, it'll go the OnePlus route and make official magnetic cases for its phones. This solution has existed for a long time, but OEMs have hardly acknowledged it before now.
Similar To OnePlus, Samsung Will Bring Magnetic Accessories, Including A “Magnetic Wallet”
According to Max Jambor on X, the Samsung Galaxy S25 series is going to be coming with a lot of accessories to jumpstart that magnetic ecosystem. At the moment, the only one that seems to be certain is a magnetic wallet. We've seen these before. It's a little pouch that will stick on the back of your phone's case, giving you a place to keep your cards, cash, and ID.
However, if I'm to make a guess, I can think of a bunch of other magnetic accessories that are very likely to be added to the mix. For instance, a magnetic power bank that is likely to be of a smaller capacity, such as 5,000mAh. I can also think of Samsung finally making a magnetic wireless charging pad. A kickstand that can attach magnetically would be a cool thing to see too.
I expect this new magnetic ecosystem to be a major part of Samsung's launch event (alongside improvements to Galaxy AI of course). There's not too much expected to improve with the hardware, so I don't think Samsung will be dwelling on that.
