When it comes to smartwatches for Android buyers, there's no easier option than Samsung's Galaxy Watch family of devices (though that doesn't mean there aren't several other fantastic options available). The only thing is, these watches tend to be on the more expensive side, so not everyone can get their wrist on one.
Well, it looks like Samsung is set to capture the budget smartwatch market (if that's even much of a thing) by adding a new low-cost model to its lineup. This will be the Samsung Galaxy Watch FE and it's now confirmed that it is coming thanks to a support page that's already gone live.
Looking For A Budget 2024 Smartwatch? The Galaxy Watch FE Might Be Your Bet
There were rumors going about that Samsung was going to be expanding its smartwatch collection for the year by one new model (and also changing the naming convention for its premium model), and that was going to be a budget option called the Samsung Galaxy Watch FE. Rumors even suggest it'll simply be a relaunch of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4, so dated specs to save cost.
Well, one thing has been confirmed and that's the presence of an additional smartwatch model from Samsung, with model number SM-R861. This is thanks to a support page that's gone live, and was first spotted thanks to MySmartPrice. The page really doesn't help us figure out anything about the smartwatch behind this model number, beyond the fact that it actually exists.
There's no official name for the wearable yet, though considering that Samsung has always turned to “FE” for its cheap options, that's where most people are looking. Other sources think it might end up as the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 (2024), but quite frankly, I think that's going to be a bit too confusing for the average person looking for a cheap smartwatch.
Samsung Unpacked Is Expected For July 10th; The Galaxy Watch Ultra (Or X) Is Expected Later
While more leaks are bound to come out as we get closer to Samsung's summer Unpacked event, expected on July 10th, we're going to need wait until then for proper official confirmation on this new budget smartwatch. Personally, I'm most excited to see what the price tag is going to be, because I know a lot of people I could gift with a smartwatch.
In related news, Samsung's top of the line model is expected to be the Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra, though one source says it'll be called the Galaxy Watch X to set it apart from Apple's Ultra watch. That watch has already had renders leaked, showing that it'll be going for a squircle body with a circular screen. It is also expected to be much thicker than previous Galaxy Watches, with a bigger battery and much more sturdy water resistance (for the sake of divers).
In 2024, Samsung is shaking up a lot of its lineups, with extra foldables and extra smartwatches. The company seems pretty insistent on more variety for customers, but all I ask for is faster charging amidst all that variety.
