With smartphones becoming more saturated than ever, foldables are currently the torchbearers of innovation. Among the most popular foldables last year was Motorola’s Razr family, with some great clamshell phones. This year has yet to see Motorola put out its offering, but with leaks and rumors floating, there are indications that we could see one soon.
Also, if last year's timeline is followed this time as well, the next Motorola clamshell could be just a little less than two months away from its launch. Regardless, there are high possibilities of one just being around the corner, and we already know a few things about the phone. Also, the phone has just visited a certification agency, further hinting that we're inching closer to its launch.
The Motorola Razr 2024 Has Appeared on the Radio Certification Website in China
The Gizmochina team has spotted a new Motorola device on the website of China's Radio Certification agency. The listing mentions no details regarding the name or any specifications, leaving us wondering about what smartphone it could be. However, it gives away one key piece of information, which almost confirms that it could be Motorola's upcoming foldable smartphone.
The model number mentioned on the certification site is XT2453-2. Interestingly, we saw another leak earlier this year which suggested that Motorola's upcoming foldable will have the model number XT-2453-3. Since these two numbers are almost similar, likely, the recently certified phone is also the forthcoming foldable Motorola.
The Upcoming Motorola Clamshell Will Be the Successor To Last Year’s Razr+
While the current listing doesn't reveal much about the Motorola Razr, we already know a few things – starting with how it looks. Recently, MSPowerUser shared a render of the phone. It also mentions that the phone will be the successor to the Motorola Razr+ launched last year, which was also called the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra in some markets.
Talking about the phone’s appearance, if you were anticipating a new design or innovation, you’d be disappointed. The phone looks identical to last year's Motorola Razr+. However, considering that the Razr+ is already one of the best-looking clamshell foldables, this isn't entirely bad.
On the outside, you get a big cover display that even extends beyond the cameras, making it one of the largest outer screens on a clamshell foldable. On the inside, you get a display with almost symmetrical bezels and a punch-hole selfie camera on the top. The Razr+ came in beautiful colorways, and it will be exciting to see what colors its successor gets.
What Else Do We Know About the Phone?
Apart from its design aspects, there's not much known about the phone. The upcoming Motorola Razr+ will allegedly get a new Snapdragon processor, but we do not know which one exactly. Since the original Motorola Razr+ was powered by the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC, Motorola might upgrade the 2024 model with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset.
When Will the Phone Launch?
Last year, Motorola released the Razr+ in June. We can expect its successor to be released around the same time this year. Also, since the phone has started making appearances at certification agencies, its launch is imminent. When released, the Motorola Razr+ 2024 will stand among the best clamshell foldables, competing against Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip5 and Oppo’s Find N3 Flip, among others.
