If you've been keeping your ear to the ground on all things Samsung foldable-related, you should know that early reports claim that the Korean electronics giant is going to make two models of each of their foldable devices this year.
However, an additional report tells us more about the second model of the Galaxy Z Fold 6, and instead of being a more premium model, it'll be a stripped-down and more affordable one. The real shocker is the reported price tag put forth by this rumor.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6's Weaker Model May Cost Less Than A Grand
I'm a technology lover, especially in the realm of smartphones, so I love what foldables can do from a technical standpoint. However, the major gripe I have with them is how much they cost. Most book-style foldables sell close to $2,000, while clamshell foldables are able to lower their prices to the $1,000 mark. However, Samsung may finally come and change that with the new Z Fold 6 model.
According to a rumor coming out of Korea, which I shouldn't have to tell you to take with a spoonful of salt, the lower Galaxy Z Fold 6 model will come with a three-digit price tag — $799 to be exact. I am extremely doubtful that this will pan out, considering that last year's Z Fold 5 cost more than double that, but if it happens to be true, I'll be the first to applaud Samsung for its accessibility.
Of course, you're going to have a lot of corners cut to slice the price of the new model down by that much. I'll be expecting a weaker processor and slightly less capable screens on the inside and outside. The report claims that the camera setup will remain the same as what you get on the Z Fold 5. It is also set to lose S-Pen support. Hopefully, despite the price cut, this Z Fold 6 model will bring enough to the table to be worthwhile.
What Do We Know About The Z Fold 6 So Far?
We've talked about the lower Z Fold 6 model (FE?) and that's pretty much the extent of what we know at the moment. But we also have a few hints on what we can expect from the regularly priced Z Fold 6 and it's a change I am very open to.
The higher-end Galaxy Z Fold 6 is expected to get a drastic new design which will bring it closer to looking at the company's current S Ultra devices. Personally, I'm a big fan of the sharp edges on my S22 Ultra (and the Ultras that follow it) and it'll be great to see that aesthetic on a foldable phone. The phone is also expected to move to a wider aspect ratio instead of the slender one that Samsung has been so keen on. Another welcome change, in my opinion.
It is also rumored that you can expect a larger cover display on the foldable, and if that pans out to be true, it means that Samsung is shaking up a whole lot when it comes to their foldable devices this year.
