2024 May See Two Galaxy Z Folds; One With S-Pen Support

Samsung looks set to shake things up in 2024, with rumors of two Z Fold models this time around. The more premium of the two will be the only one to retain S-Pen support, however.

Every year for the last few years, Samsung has released two foldable devices: the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold and the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip. It's been like this for a bit so we never really thought things would change.

Alas, 2024 looks set to bring a lot of change to the Galaxy Z Fold, as Samsung may launch two versions of the Z Fold 6. One of these is expected to be a more premium option with all the bells and whistles, while another will be a vanilla model.

Samsung May Release A Galaxy Z Fold “Pro” or “Ultra” Alongside A Regular Model

This year, if a report is to be believed, Samsung may release not just two foldables, but three. The Z Fold, seen as the easy foldable choice by many, looks set to introduce a “Pro” or “Ultra” model to the lineup this year. Whether this means an even more premium model beyond what we usually expect from a Z Fold or a stripped-down, cheaper model (with our usual Z Fold expectations pushed up to “Ultra”) is yet to be seen.

We don't know too much about what could differentiate these models beyond how they handle the S-Pen. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 has S-Pen support (though it doesn't have a location to store it in like the S24 Ultra does). It seems that such S-Pen support will only come to the higher-priced model, though it isn't sure whether it will have a place to stash the stylus. An S-Pen slot would likely make the phone a bit thicker but would be a major selling point for power users.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the Ultra model will be priced similarly to the Z Fold 5 at launch so that the regular model can be more accessible. Foldables are still quite expensive, and lower-priced models will help a lot.

What Do We Know About The Galaxy Z Fold 6 Already?

Based on leaks and rumors, we know a little about what we should expect from one of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 models; which one though, we can't say.

It seems that the Galaxy Z Fold 6 will look very different from the Z Fold 5, opting for a more squared-off design. It's like the difference between the S24+ and the S24 Ultra. I definitely love the new look a lot more.

It's also rumored that they will switch to a titanium frame, come packing thinner bezels, and switch to a wider aspect ratio (the older Z Folds have always been relatively tall devices). Some reports claim that we can expect a bigger cover display, too, likely to be protected by the new Corning Gorilla Armor.

When Can We Expect Samsung's New Foldables To Launch?

As always, we can expect the Galaxy Z foldables to launch at Samsung's second Unpacked event for the year, which usually comes in the summer months: July or August, to be precise, and it looks like things will likely follow that pattern in 2024 too.
