OnePlus is best known for their smartphone line but they've also done interesting things with wearables like the OnePlus Buds and the OnePlus Watch. The latter, which came out in 2021, is more our focus for today, because it is finally about to get a successor — certainly took long enough.

We know that the OnePlus Watch 2 will be releasing later this month, but we've learned some new things about it. For one, it looks like it's going to have stellar battery life, and that's enough of a reason for it to be on your radar.

One of the simplest ways to get information about upcoming devices is through the regulatory agencies that they pass through. In this case, we learned a few new things about the upcoming OnePlus Watch 2 based on its FCC filing, shoutout to Android Authority.

We know that the model number of the device will be “OPWWE231”, which shows that this will be a worldwide variant. The battery size is also revealed — a much more useful thing to know — and it will come with a 500 mAh cell inside. For reference, the original OnePlus Watch had a 402 mAh battery and the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 has a 425 mAh cell, so 500 is beefy. They say it'll provide up to 100 hours of battery life in “Smart Mode”.

The device will launch at MWC Barcelona 2024 on February 26th, and we're going to be there, so keep yourself glued to our coverage so you don't miss anything.

If You Like LTE Smartwatches, The OnePlus Watch 2 Isn't The One For You

When you take a good look at the connectivity information present in the filing information for the OnePlus Watch 2, you'll notice something interesting. The phone will support connectivity standards like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and NFC, but there's no hint of LTE.

If you like cellular connectivity baked into your smartwatches, don't hold your breath expecting the OnePlus Watch 2 to come with an LTE model as an option. This is a little bit of a letdown for those who like to be smartphone-free but have their smartwatch constantly connected.

Crafted Carefully: Three Years After Its Predecessor

The OnePlus Watch 2 is the second smartwatch released by OnePlus, a company that entered the Android space as a disruptor. Even though some of the minds at the top of the business have moved onto new ventures, we can still see the company making careful choices with their products, such as taking their time with the Watch 2.

In the official OnePlus Community release, the company talks about their confidence after three years off, and I won't lie; it instills deep anticipation in me. Some of the things confirmed in their post include the fact that the watch will be housed in stainless steel and the watch face will be made of sapphire crystal, which if you're in the know, takes a lot of effort to scratch up. It'll also be coming with Wear OS, unlike the original Watch.

It sounds like OnePlus have been cooking up perfection, and we're only going to need to wait a few days to see what they have in store.
