Deja vu, perhaps? It looks like the very recently released Samsung Galaxy S24 series is encountering compatibility issues with Android Auto in certain cars, once again. The problem was immediately acknowledged by Samsung, at least. Though unfortunately, it seems more pronounced on some models from certain car manufacturers.

Connection Issues from the Car Side

Reports, both anecdotal and technical, indicate that Galaxy S24 users are encountering difficulties in establishing and maintaining a connection with Android Auto in select cars. The root cause of the issue, as clarified by Samsung, lies in the software of the vehicles rather than any shortcomings in the Galaxy S24 or Google's Android Auto application.

At least one suggested possible cause seems to be the assignment of IP addresses through Android hotspots, with particular emphasis on the compatibility challenges observed in Volkswagen cars.

Indeed, according to the guide provided by Samsung, the initial troubleshooting steps require you to check your own settings, and then provide a follow-up submission of the issue to your model’s car manufacturer. Nowhere did the company acknowledge the fault on their side, and there seems to be no plans for a hotfix in the same direction.

Troubleshooting Overview

The steps for the guide include meticulous checks of the car's settings for Android Auto compatibility, experimenting with different USB cables, updating the Android Auto app on the Galaxy S24, and checking for system updates on the phone. You can see the Samsung UK issue page for more details. Though, as we stated earlier, you are encouraged to reach out to customer or service centers if the steps prove ineffective.

From the manufacturer’s side, it looks like Volkswagen, Skoda, and SEAT are already engaged in resolving the technical intricacies causing Android Auto connectivity problems with the Galaxy S24. Can we expect a global fix for most individual cases to arrive in the next day or two? Hopefully.

Not the First, Nor Will Be the Last

The current compatibility issues faced by the Galaxy S24 with Android Auto in select cars echo a familiar pattern observed with previous Samsung devices. Following the launch of the Galaxy S23 series in the first quarter of 2023, users also reported similar challenges related to Android Auto functionality.

Furthermore, a less recent Android 14 update from Samsung last December 2023 triggered disruptions for users relying on Android Auto, showcasing a consistent trend of post-update complications.

Samsung has maintained collaborative efforts with Google and car manufacturers to understand, diagnose, and rectify compatibility issues right as they occur. But we suppose these hiccups still remain due to integration imperfections. If you are one of the users affected by this, you might want to ask for anecdotal information about those affected by a previous similar problem. They might have insights on how fast your specific case will be resolved.
