We may be nine months away from when it will be unveiled, but thanks to a serial leaker, we may already know what Google's Pixel 9 looks like. The refreshed design isn't reinventing the wheel in terms of design; rather, it's a re-imagining of what came before. The leaked high-resolution renders and video leave little to the imagination besides what the internals offer, so join us after the break to learn more about the Pixel 9's refined design.
Flatter and Color-coded
Thanks to OnLeaks via 91Mobiles, we have renders showing us how the upcoming Pixel 9 differs from the Pixel 8, which launched in October 2023. Where the Pixel 8 sports a rounded edge, which lends itself to feeling more comfortable to hold, the leaked Pixel 9 renders reveal a flat frame with slightly fatter but also flatter volume and power buttons.
The 5K 360-degree video above gives a good view of the alleged Pixel 9 from just about every angle. You can see how the corners appear more rounded than its predecessor. The actual frame design seems a little iPhone-ish, in our opinion. However, Pixel-specific traits are still in view, such as the horizontal camera strip, which no longer stretches from edge to edge but has rounded edges and protrudes a little more. You can also see the presence of a rectangular-shaped third camera sensor, which could be a periscope telephoto lens.
The finish of the camera housing has changed, which looks to be somewhat color-coded to the rear panel's finish. You'll also notice that the antenna strips on the phone's sides are color-coded to the rear panel's colorway.
The refreshed aesthetic promises to build upon Google's progress with the Pixel series in recent years, which has moved from a relatively bland design to one with some style and substance that is still unique to the search giant. There's no way you could ever mistake a Pixel handset for a phone from a different brand.
What Else Can We Expect From The Pixel 9?
Well, we can expect the fourth generation Tensor chip, and possibly the last to have Samsung involvement, to power the Pixel 9. And since 2024 is a continuation of 2023, when it comes to AI, we can expect Google to pack even more artificially intelligent features into its upcoming phones with Bard front and center.
Outwardly, the Pixel 9 is expected to decrease in size compared to the Pixel 8. If the report is accurate, it would mean that the Pixel 9 might be able to be classed as a compact flagship, which isn't very common in the Android world.
With almost nine months to go until Google officially takes the wraps off the Pixel 9 series, we can expect more leaks to paint a fuller picture. And who knows, Google might provide a sneak peek during Google I/O in May.
