T-Mobile held an Uncarrier event today where it proceeded to mock its rivals for offering 36-month contracts and announce a pair of new data plans called Go5G and Go5G Plus which are aimed at those wanting to switch. While they are similar to the Magenta Max plans, the Go5G offerings do differ in terms of pricing and data allowances.

If you are stuck in a three-year contract with the likes of Verizon and AT&T, T-Mobile's ‘Easy Unlock' promise will pay off your phone (up to $650 via prepaid Mastercard) and let you trade it in to get a brand-new smartphone on them.

“AT&T’s unlock process rivals a trip to the DMV, so we’re helping their customers avoid the aggravation,” said Mike Katz, President of Marketing, Innovation and Experience, T-Mobile. “For the first time ever, we’re not just taking locked phones off people’s hands — we’re also sending people home with a free smartphone on America’s most awarded 5G network.”

T-Mobile says that the Go5G Plus plan is the first wireless plan to guarantee new and existing customers are upgrade-ready every two years. Those switching to T-Mobile get a ‘Go Back Guarantee' whereby users can switch back to their original carrier (within 30 days) and receive $50 back per voice line from the uncarrier to help cover the cost of the bill.

Both Go5G plans offer unlimited calls, texts, and data however the Plus plan has unlimited premium 5G data while the basic plan makes do with 100GB premium 5G data before speeds are restrained. I say make do, it's likely that the 100GB of premium 5G data will suffice for the majority of users.

  • More Hotspot Data: Get 50GB of high-speed smartphone hotspot data every month,
  • More North America Data: Get 15GB of high-speed data in Mexico and Canada every month, with customers already using nearly 50% more in Mexico and Canada. That’s 3X more high-speed data than Magenta MAX.
  • More Savings: With Go5G Plus on autopay, you'll save about $120 a year for two compared to premium plans from AT&T and Verizon. And for a limited time, you can get Go5G Plus with the third line free — saving a family of three around $500 a year compared to the Carriers premium plans.

T-Mobile says the plans offer $270 in added value every month including Netflix and Apple TV+ as well as in-flight streaming and 5GB of international data. Plus there's access to the T-Mobile Tuesdays app which offers discounts, rewards, and freebies such as season passes to the likes of MLB TV.

Pricing for the Go5G and Go5G Plus plans start from $75 and $90 monthly with extra lines garnering savings. If you take out four lines you'll pay $185 monthly on the Go5G Plus plan.
