Considering that Warcraft has been a consistently popular game franchise over the past couple of decades, it's been surprisingly absent from the mobile gaming segment other than a companion app. This could be about to change, however, because Blizzard's latest blog post confirms that it is indeed developing a Warcraft game for mobile devices from scratch.
First hinted at when it posted its fourth-quarter financial results, the promise of bringing the Warcraft Universe to mobile devices is sure to be one that gets the various tribes excited with anticipation.
“Beyond World of Warcraft and Hearthstone, we're preparing to get the first game in the Warcraft Universe designed for mobile into your hands. We will tell you more about it in May.”
As the blog post says, Blizzard aims to reveal more details about the mobile game during May. Other than that, little is known about the title. To me, the promise of more information in May implies that the release will be some time after that, although hopefully there might be a public beta or soft launch of the as-yet-untitled game.
The promise of a mobile game brings with it questions such as:
- Will it be free-to-play?
- Will there be IAPs?
- Will it follow the Warcraft lore?
- Will there be multiplayer gameplay?
Blizzard will hopefully reveal the answers to those questions and more during its May announcement. Until then, let us know what you would like to see in this mobile-focused Warcraft game.
