Galaxy S22 Ultra

The Galaxy S22 Ultra leaks are heating up, especially with the Galaxy S21 FE out of the way. The latest rumor suggests that it might not be an upgrade from last year's Galaxy S21 Ultra in a few key ways, though, which might put off some of Samsung's highest-end customers.

So what's different? This rumor suggests that the Galaxy S22 Ultra will cap out at 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage, which isn't terrible for a 2022 smartphone, but remember that the Galaxy S21 Ultra had a 512GB model with 16GB of RAM. For whatever reason, Samsung looks like they're capping the memory of their top flagship compared to its predecessor.

Additionally, 512GB will remain the most storage you can get. Samsung has drifted away from 1TB models, and it's not coming back this time around.

But is this actually a big deal? Well, if you're someone that always buys the most high-end version of a phone, then yes. It sucks to upgrade a phone but have to make a key tradeoff like that. But on the other hand, this probably won't affect too many customers. Samsung likely has some internal data that their 16GB phone wasn't a top seller (and at that price point, that's fairly obvious) and 12GB of RAM is still more than sufficient for the vast majority of Android users, even power users.

I'm also not one of the people that sees much use in smartphones cramming in 32GB of memory, especially with Android's native memory management and third-party software applying its own memory tweaks on top of that. But what do you think? Is lowering the maximum memory a dealbreaker for the S22 Ultra, or a non-issue?
