With the first preview of Android apps on Windows 11 already available in the US, Google has realized that it risks being left behind and so has announced, in typical Google fashion, that it will bring Android games to the platform in 2022. There's no mention of Android apps, though, with the search giant only saying that Android games will be able to be played on Windows 11 PCs, laptops, and tablets via the Google Play Games app.
In a statement given to The Verge, Google's product director of games on Android and Google Play, Greg Hartrell said the following:
“Starting in 2022, players will be able to experience their favorite Google Play games on more devices: seamlessly switching between a phone, tablet, Chromebook, and soon, Windows PCs,”
Google spokesperson Alex Garcia-Kummert says that the company built the app on its own without any input from Microsoft or Bluestacks, which will be native to Windows and not involve game streaming or special integration with Windows 11.
While it's great news that the search giant is bringing the Google Play Games app to Windows, there are no details on if it will bring Android apps to Windows by way of the Play Store app as yet.
