Tired of my complaining about the Pixel 6's fingerprint issues and explaining why I returned my 6 Pro? Relax, this isn't one of those articles, instead, we have news of a different calamity to befall Google's new phones in which the latest update to the Google Photos app magically wipes the Magic Eraser function out of existence. Luckily, this is easily remedied, and it's likely that the update itself will be pulled once Google gets its ducks in a row.
As reported by Pixel 6 users on a Reddit thread, once the phone updates to version 5.67 of the Google Photos app then the Magic Eraser feature simply disappears from the Tools section of the photo editor. Unfortunately, once you've updated and lost Magic Eraser there isn't a way of bringing it back, even if you uninstall the update. This means you'll need to wait until Google rectifies the issue by rolling out a new update that resurrects the photo editing feature.
If you haven't updated the Google Photos app just yet, that's a good thing. Head over to the Play Store and make sure that automatic updates to the app are disabled by tapping on the three-dot menu and unticking the Enable auto-update option.
At least this latest bump in the road isn't hardware-related and will get smoothed out by Google once it figures out what caused the problem.
Google should stop wasting time making hardware that usually sucks… Like underscreen fingerprint sensor or zero storage expandability or underscreen lenses….
