The Clubhouse app looks to be set to gain a new competitor in the form of Amazon if current reports are accurate, with the retailer apparently developing an app that could let everyone DJ their own radio show. The app is codenamed “Project Mic” will roll out in the United States initially although no timeframe for the release is known at the current time.
What is “Project Mic”?
Well, according to The Verge, it's Amazon's attempt to take on Clubhouse by leveraging its music library to give users the ability to act as a DJ for their own radio show. As you might expect, Amazon leverages its core products such as Amazon Music, Twitch, and Audible with its Alexa-powered devices able to stream the show as well as interact with the program via voice commands. While Clubhouse and other imitations concentrate on live chat, Amazon's offering will be a smorgasbord of content including music with regional shows as well as collaborations with celebrities and creators.
As mentioned, there is no timeframe given for when we can expect “Project Mic” officially unveiled nor what its official branding will be. Unlike Clubhouse, Amazon will almost cater to both Android and iOS from the start which should bolster its initial take-up.
