Android has always lagged a bit behind on full backup features next to its fruity counterpart, but Google's made improvements to that in the last few years. Now they're utilizing Google One's cloud storage to make almost entire backups on your device automatically, which should cover just about everything.
If you subscribe to Google One you can turn on these device backups, which will now back up MMS messages, plus full quality photos and videos. That's on top of the texts, apps, and contacts there were already backed up.
Regardless of if you're backing up because you're upgrading or as a safeguard against losing or breaking your phone, this is going to take a lot of stress off of a lot of people. And it's all included in with the rest of your Google One backup for documents, files, and whatever else you're storing there, so you won't have to do much to take advantage of this new feature.
You can also manage those backups from the Google One app, in case you need to change anything or delete something to save room.
