The Galaxy Fold, despite struggling to actually enter the market, shows a ton of promise for smartphone design. It would allow phones to have much larger screens without significantly increasing the size of the phone in your pocket, and there are some pretty serious productivity implications there.
And what better giant, productivity-focused phone to take advantage of a folding screen than Samsung's own Galaxy Note?
A new report out of South Korea suggests that Samsung is cooking up a second generation Galaxy Fold set for release early next year that would sport an 8-inch display and S-Pen support. Not only would support for Samsung's high-tech stylus be a big improvement, but the 8-inch screen would also be a step up from the current Galaxy Fold's 7.3-inch display when unfolded.

So what exactly is this phone going to be? Just a Galaxy Fold that also happens to have an S-Pen? Samsung's done that with some relatively cheaper tablets, so honestly, that wouldn't be a huge surprise. But it could also be testing the waters for something even bigger, like the Galaxy Fold line supplanting the Galaxy Note family, or just testing out how consumers react to a folding screen with an S-Pen to see if it's worth adding a folding display to the Note, then dropping the Galaxy Fold altogether.
I don't think it's very likely that we see Samsung release three batches of flagships each year (Galaxy S, Galaxy Fold, then finally Galaxy Note) but I suppose it could happen if demand skyrockets. It's a little more likely that one of the three gets the axe after all of the early bugs are worked out.
Samsung just has to actually get the Galaxy Fold in shape to be released, first.
