Xiaomi has long been one of the most promising Android manufacturers, despite having a very limited reach for the first part of smartphones' existence. But now that the company has started to expand outside of their home country of China things are looking better than ever, and that trend could continue if their largest competitor gets blocked from using Google's Play Services on Android.
For the first quarter of 2019, Xiaomi has announced that their revenue jumped 27%, beating expectations and coming in at $6.3 billion. Despite still doing well in China, that market has slowed down, so Xiaomi has shifted focus to other markets in Europe and India. It's working well, too, as evidenced by an increase of over $1 billion in revenue.
But going back to China, Xiaomi saw their market share decline over 20%, losing ground to competitors like Huawei, Vivo, and Oppo. China's overall market shrank around 7%.
You can expect Xiaomi to continue their slow and steady expansion into other countries around the world to maintain revenue and market share. Maybe we'll finally start to commonly see those devices in the west one of these years.
