Google’s Pixel Slate, their new Chrome OS tablet, is now available to pre-order

Google introduced us to the Pixel Slate last month, which is the latest Chrome OS device and their first to come as a tablet (although Acer launched the Chromebook Tab 10 tablet earlier this summer). Unlike the Acer device, which was a bit sluggish and underwhelming, the new Pixel Slate is a flagship device with many configurations. Starting at just $599, you can now pre-order Google’s latest from the Google Store, Amazon and Best Buy, with a probable ship (or delivery) date of November 22nd.

Google hasn’t officially announced a launch date with only a “2 to 3 week” shipping estimate, but Best Buy has it clearly stated that pre-orders will arrive on Thursday, November 22nd. Buyers should also be able to walk into a store to both try out the device and buy it on November 22nd as well. Amazon’s listing doesn’t have a shipping date either, but with Best Buy’s specific one and the shipping estimate from Google, it’s safe to say that November 22nd is the day.

The Pixel Slate was part of Google’s October hardware event that also brought us the Pixel 3 phones, Home Hub and more, but it’s the only one that hasn’t been officially released yet. The delay could be a result of the fact that a Federal Communications Commission (FCC) certification was likely not in place at the time of the event.

Looking at the device itself, we have a 12.3-inch “Molecular Display” at 3,000 x 2,000 resolution, which is also compatible with the new Pixel Pen (their version of Apple’s Pencil). And like Apple’s accessory, this one sells separately for $99. A fingerprint sensor and wide-angle selfie camera are also highlights. The battery should last around 12 hours on a charge, with a 15-minute quick charge providing two hours of use.

Prices and configurations:

  • $599 – Intel Celeron processor, 4GB RAM and 32GB storage
  • $699 – Intel Celeron Processor, 8GB RAM and 64GB storage
  • $799 – Intel Core m3 processor, 8GB RAM and 64GB storage
  • $999 – Intel Core i5 model, 8GB RAM and 128GB storage
  • $1,599 – Intel Core i7, 16GB RAM and 256GB storage
  • $99 – Pixel Pen
  • $199 – Foldable Google keyboard/cover

Amazon and Best Buy are currently not listing the cheapest versions as available for pre-orders, but that should change soon. If you’re looking to pick up the latest Chromebook in a tablet form factor, you can pre-order now at the links below.
