New Spectacles launched by Snap 4

This past April Snap launched a new version of their Spectacles point-of-view glasses for capturing images and video. The “2.0” version added some new features like waterproofing and improvements to the wireless connections used to upload captures. One thing Snap only tweaked was the look of the glasses – still relatively goofy. Two new versions launched by Snap hope to address that by bringing a more traditional look to the Spectacles.

The two new versions are called the Nico and the Veronica. Both are black framed glasses that are not much different traditional sunglasses. This should make it a bit easier for users who are worried about how they look to go ahead and don a pair. Snap also made these new versions a bit more usable as actual sunglasses as the lenses are now polarized. The attempt to make Spectacle more “mainstream” even extends to the case. The Original version comes in a hard plastic case that is bright yellow. The new Nico and Veronica models come with a “semi-soft” case in black leather looking material, making the overall package even more nondescript.

According to Snap, a software feature is being planned for release later this fall that will automatically curate a day's worth of activities into a highlight story.

Consumers can buy the new models from the Snap web site for $199, which is $50 more than the Original model. Snap indicates shipping will take place in 1-2 weeks. They are also slated to be sold in retailer locations later this fall including stores like Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus in the U.S.
