New renders of the Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL 4

Earlier today, several new renders including both still shots and videos of the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL were revealed. The new images were created using factory CAD files to get dimensions and placement of different pieces in the correct locations. The renders do not really reveal any new information but they do align with previously leaked information on what Google has in the works for their fall phone release.

According to the sources that worked on the project, the display for the Pixel 3 will be 5.4-inches and does not include a notch in the display. The bezels, especially the top and bottom, appear to be a bit smaller than the Pixel 2 and may enable the aspect ratio to be pushed to 18:9 despite an otherwise poor screen-to-body ratio. The bigger Pixel 3 XL is expected to have a 6.2-inch screen and gets the notorious notch treatment sweeping through the market. This should put the aspect ratio at 19:9.

Sources have noted that two distinct sensors appear to be located in the Pixel 3 notch area. However, it is still unclear as to whether they are dual camera sensors or a camera sensor and something else like an ambient light sensor. Both devices will have front-facing stereo speakers and a single camera on the back. The lack of a dual camera setup for the rear-facing camera will likely be disappointing to potential buyers, although Google seems to do an excellent job of squeezing out excellent performance from those rear cameras.

Some other exterior features include a fingerprint sensor located in the back of the devices, a combination glass and metal back that carries over from the current model for the most part, and all buttons – power, volume rockers – located on the left hand edge.

Thus far, no details have emerged regarding what Google may pack in to the devices. We assume the top of the line Snapdragon 845 will power the phones, but all other details of the inner components remain a mystery.

  1. That notch on the XL is huge! I hate phones with notches, you get this black bar going down the left side of the screen when you do video recording and screen shots. You also forever noticing this black bar when you are gaming or watching a full screen video. I may consider a phone with dual notch, at least its symmetrical.
