Essential may have only sold 88,000 phones during 2017, but that doesn’t mean the company is ready to throw in the towel. Quite the contrary, in fact, the phone maker has finally made the Essential Phone available in the Ocean Depths color that was teased way back when the phone was announced in mid-2017, with two more colors coming online in the next week or so. They look great, right? Do they look nice enough to pay an extra $100 over the Black Moon or Pure White variants?
The Ocean Depths color is available to purchase today from 12 pm PST.
Stellar Grey can be ordered from 12 pm PST on February 20, which you can see above.
Finally, my favorite color of the bunch, Copper Black, will be available to buy from 12 pm PST on February 22. You’ve got to hand it to Essential because while the phone launched with software issues, and perhaps a price tag that was a tad optimistic for a début product, the company hasn’t been shy to alter its strategy by reducing the cost and issuing a slew of updates. Just yesterday the company began rolling out an Android 8.1 Oreo beta OTA, fulfilling a promise it made when it announced it was skipping 8.0 Oreo due to ‘stability issues’. But, charging an extra $100 for the same phone in a different color? Really?
What do you think of the new Ocean Depths, Stellar Grey, and Copper Black colors? Are you willing to pay $599 for the new color options instead of $499 for Black Moon or Pure White?
