Last year, continuing a trend, the Alcatel Idol 4S was a potential sleeper phone offering a solid choice for mid-range budget shoppers. Judging from a new leaked photo, Alcatel appears to be planning to stick close to the game plan for 2017 with the successor phone, the Alcatel Idol 5S expected to be available in June.
The new image posted by Roland Quandt on Twitter shows the Alcatel Idol 5S next to an Alcatel Idol 4. That is slightly important to note, the use of the Alacatel Idol 4 and not the Idol 4S, for the comparison photo since the Idol 5S will come with a 5.2-inch screen. Last year the “plain” Idol 4 had a 5.2-inch screen while the Idol 4S had a larger 5.5-inch screen
Otherwise, the devices look very similar. One item noted as being different is the speaker grille at the top of the device which moves to fewer, larger holes instead of finer holes. One potential difference also appears to be the presence, or lack thereof, of a power button on the left hand side of the device.

According to previous spottings of the Idol 5S on Geekbench, the device will come with a MediaTek Helio P20 processor, 3GB of RAM and will run Android 7.0 at a minimum. The display will be a full HD screen running at 1920 x 1080 resolution. Cameras will be a 12MP rear-facing unit and an 8MP front-facing unit. At least one variant of the Idol 5S will come with 32GB of internal storage.
