Sprint is getting ready to launch the Galaxy J3 (2017) on January 6, according to a report from Venture Beat. Not only that, but it'll be offering it on two of its subsidiaries as well: Boost and Virgin Mobile.

We've got the details after the break.

What you're seeing in the image above is the Galaxy J3 (2017); however, Sprint will be marketing it as the Galaxy J3 Emerge, at least according to a user manual obtained by Venture Beat.

With the J3 Emerge you're not going to see a whole lot of huge changes over last year's variant. You still get the same 5-inch 720p display; however, you do get an upgrade in the processor department. Last year's rendition featured a quad-core processor, 1.5GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage. This year, we get an upgrade to an octa-core Snapdragon 430, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage.

On the software side of things, you'll, of course, get the Samsung experience, but you'll be running off of Android 6.0 Marshmallow instead of last year's Android 5.0 Lollipop. It's certainly not Android 7.0 Nougat, but still a step up for an entry-level device.

As far as camera optics go, you're looking at a 5-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front camera. You also get the same 2,600mAh battery.

As you can see, there aren't too many big changes — just very small and incremental upgrades. If you're looking forward to the new entry-level device, expect it to hit Sprint and its subsidiaries on January 6.
