One of the most popular desires for smartphones these days, aside from longer lasting batteries, is a device with as little bezel as possible. Despite some usability benefits from having a bezel, a smartphone where the display covers all or most of the front gives off a very sleek and futuristic appearance, as well as allow for larger screens with a smaller physical size. If these new concept images for a nearly bezel-free Nubia phone prove to be true, then these wishes may soon be granted.

Reducing bezels on smartphones is not a terribly new concept, with Samsung known for releasing phones with great screen-to-body ratios. And recently, Xiaomi came out with their beautifully designed and almost bezel-less Mi MIX smartphone.

And now some images have appeared on MyDrivers.com showing off a concept of a Nubia slider phone with virtually no bezels. While we must stress that these images are concepts and may not represent any actual smartphone to be released, it is still interesting to see the ways that manufacturers can get creative with a design like this.
Right off the bat you see a smartphone where the display reaches the very edges of the device and even appears to curve or angle slightly down the sides. The only area with a bezel is at the bottom.

What makes this design especially interesting is the slider design that brings forth additional functionality. According to these images, sliding up the back panel of the device would expose the front speaker as well as front-facing camera and flash. That's an area that manufacturers have been playing with as those functions are not trivial. Xiaomi's approach in their Mi MIX smartphone was to move the front camera to just below the display on the bottom, and replace the speaker with a proprietary solution within the frame itself.
The approach with this Nubia concept seems more elegant and would be a lot more familiar to users when compared to other smartphones.
The images also show off a lot of customization for the back panel with standard white and black models, as well as some very classy wood or leather options.

Again, at the moment these are simply concept images and there is no information for what the possible specs or availability would even be. Nevertheless, it is still interesting to see what ideas and designs might be possible in the (hopefully) near future of smartphones.
