There are a couple of things everyone is wondering about the Priv. Number one, how do you actually pronounce it. And number two, how well does it work? Luckily, John Chen, CEO of BlackBerry, explains both… sorta.
We can finally put the name guessing aside: “Priv” is pronounced like “give”, only with a “P”. We got number one out of the way and now to cover number two, how well does it work?
Chen went on BNN to show the world how the brand new BlackBerry Priv works. The same phone that he has been leading his team in creating, and making sure it becomes a huge hit. However, by the video on BNN, it looks more like he has no clue how to use it. Not only does the video make it look like he has never seen the device before, he also seems to be totally new to Android.
All he had to do was show up to BNN, use the phone in any normal way, and impress consumers enough to buy it. Somehow, he screws it up. Chen didn't open one app properly or show the actual keyboard in use. However, even with the mistakes, the phone still looks like it could be a success. Dual curve screen, high-end specs, actual keyboard that doubles as a trackpad, it has all the parts to be a win for BlackBerry. We will just have to imagine everything works great since Chen showed us nothing.

This is my standpoint. As a BlackBerry 10 user, like John Chen, I will say what I saw. First off, it is obvious the phone was lagging at first touch. When he pressed the home key the animation was visible longer than it should have been. And it was still lagging when he opened Google. Not a product of him not knowing how to use it. Secondly, when he tried to close it he tried to use BlackBerry 10 gestures to exit the application. I often do that when using someone else’s phone, it’s habit. Not a product of him not knowing how to use the device. Unbiased: Android devices have been known to lag here and there, all operating systems have. And, honestly, he may not have spent a great amount of time with it all at once. For why he didn’t show the touch keyboard, we really don’t know. The reason could be simple or complex.

Because John Chen is the ONLY CEO who has publicly attempted to demonstrate his company’s widget and wasn’t quite familiar with how it works.
Because he is the only CEO who has demonstrated his company’s product that still needs to be fine-tuned before being released for public consumption.
Please, allow me to jump on your bandwagon and laugh (hahaha) at this CEO who is attempting what no one else is: A crossover of mobile telephone ecosystems (albeit, the others are so successful, they don’t need to, except Windows of course). It is SO funny!
Oh, one more thing: Is the “r” in Priv silent? Is it Piv (similar in sound to “give”)?

We are talking about this story only. Not saying all other CEO’s are better and he is the first to do this. The biggest fail of all time was from Bill Gates when Microsoft got the blue screen of death on stage. That forever will be the funnest fail of a company.

You would think the CEO would take a few minutes to familiarise himself with his own product before agreeing to do an interview about that product. I’m sure if another employee did that they’d be looking for anothere job right now. SMH
It’s kind of weird they didn’t tell him exactly what to do. Chrome wasn’t even set up. The fact that he didn’t show the trackpad on the keyboard being used, to me, was the biggest problem. That is the main feature that everyone would of been impressed by. Just showing them it has a keyboard isn’t anything new.
Yeah, the video is painful. He is clueless about the phone, it looks ridiculous. My grandmother would be more at ease with that phone and she’s never had a phone with a touchscreen.
He doesn’t know how to navigate the UI, he doesn’t know how to open apps, he doesn’t know how to even touch the screen properly.

Seems like a dude to me. Like his style. Obviously has no idea how to use the phone, but that doesn’t say much about the phone or do too much damage to the image of the phone.
