Although it is not clear the latest moves by Samsung were coordinated, with the release of the Samsung Galaxy S6 without water resistance qualities Samsung appears to be taking some steps to address consumers who need something a little more rugged. There have been rumors of a Galaxy S6 active model and now a source has revealed Samsung is planning to release a couple phones that revive their Xcover 3 branding.

Buyers would have to forego the smartphone form factor with the Samsung B550 Xcover 3, a ruggedized device that Samsung is prepping to hit the market during the second quarter. The B550 Xcover 3 will reportedly come with a 2.4-inch screen running at 240 x 320 pixels resolution, an SC7703A processor, 128MB of RAM and 128MB of storage.

Other specs include a 3MP camera, a microSD slot, FM radio, and Bluetooth. This will be powered by a 1,300 mAh battery that should be able to go a whole day easily. Of course, the main draw for such a device would be IP67 certification and whatever else Samsung does to make the phone as indestructible as possible.

Early indications are that the B550 Xcover 3 would sell for about €99 ($104 USD).
