When it was announced that Rovio was venturing into a new advertising area by allowing video ads to display during Angry Birds gameplay, I thought that was a little over the top, as did MANY other Android Angry Birds fans. As it was, ads appeared at the bottom of the screen already, and can cause the game to display serious lag at times, making it somewhat frustrating to continue playing.
This is from an Angry Birds fan who posted their similar trials with the ads;
Angry birds seasons works well on my cliq with android 2.2 needs a paid version without ads because the ads do make it lag and certain ads lag it so bad it is unplayable. Cant dissable data because the game wont even run. Please make a paid version for android.
I know, I know…”the game was free, what are you crying about?” Well, yes, the game was free. But I can't wait for the paid version to come out for Android. I'll pay $2.99 to have no ad interruptions while I'm smoking some green pigs, no problem at all. Fact is, the ads are just plain annoying! Rovio hit gold with it though, and because of that, it's only going to get worse, as this forums users have all agreed on as well.
Such as, when I'm playing Angry Birds on my Android device, the last ads I care to see are Windows Phone 7 ads! Seriously Rovio, either Microsoft has paid you an obscene amount to violate the sanctity of my Android mobile home, or your marketing department has failed miserably by trying to hit the wrong target audience with your video ad campaigns.
Newsflash Rovio – Android users…don't want to watch Windows Phone 7 ads…especially while they're trying to play your game.
If playing Angry Birds has you frustrated, let us know in the comments below. Maybe, just maybe Rovio will rush out the paid version for Android and make another $10 million.
“I’ll pay $2.99 to have no ad interruptions while I’m smoking some green pigs, no problem at all.”
No, because now you’re dictating the price of what you will pay for them game. And then people will complain about $2.99 being too much and so on.
I disagree with some commentors on here who said the developer is arrogant now because the game is popular (I’m paraphrasing). It has nothing to do with being arrogant, it’s about making a profit off of their game.
I agree with MATHIEU & JOHN B. People feel “entitled” to play the game for free-hours and hours of entertainment at no personal cost- and then complain about some ads.
Then 2 responders suggested “hacking” the game. Hacking a FREE game just so they don’t have to see ads. Those are not fans of Angry Birds, those are just thieves and hoarders. Sorry but it needed to be said.
Ad blocker works! I opened Ad Blocker, selected Angry Birds, and selected “block”, and it seems fine…no ads. I will use it on other aps as needed, but for now Angry Birds is the one that most annoys me.
Why don’t you people just turn of the data connection? It cancels away all the ads and the game works much better. Now I can play all day at work and not get frustrated.
i am agree If Rovio would just put the ad after you complete the level (or fail to complete it) they would have much more affective advertising as well as solve the lag issue.
Instead of using hacked versions or ad blocking software, you could just put your phone into Airplane mode. This disables ads WITHOUT disabling the game itself. It works brilliantly on my Evo.
…or you can just install a hacked version with the ads stripped out…
I can’t stand the video ads. I have the sound turned off in the game, but when a video starts, the sound from the video blares out of my phone, meaning I can’t play the game where that might disturb someone. I would gladly pay to get rid of the ads.
I too am very annoyed by the ads. And the video ads are rediculous. I would gladly pay whatever they would charge to play ad-free.
The ads in Angry Birds aren’t affective. I usually open the level and then put my phone down for 15 seconds so the ad bar at the top disappears before I start the level. Or on the levels that don’t lag as bad, I eye the green pigs and plan my attack. I didn’t even realize there was an ad for Windows Phone 7 because I am not even looking at the ads.
What Rovio needs to do for their free ad-based version is to mimic Wordfeud. Wordfeud’s free version displays that ad after you take your turn. You have to push a button to clear the ad so you always see it. The ads are full page and at least one is a video. I don’t find them annoying at all and they don’t initiate until after you take your turn so they don’t have any affect on your ability to play the game.
If Rovio would just put the ad after you complete the level (or fail to complete it) they would have much more affective advertising as well as solve the lag issue. It seems like a no-brainer.
The game runs extremely smooth on my OG. I have a custom rom w/ an add blocking enabled. I’ve never seen a single video or add anywhere in the screen while I play. Maybe you guys should consider rooting.
Exact same argument as ads on the web…
Those who recommends ads blockers are plain too ignorant. It is one thing to be asking for a paid version so that you can play ad-free game (this I understand). But to act as if you have the right to play an ad-free game that is free.
If you don’t like ads, don’t play it. Rovio already announced that they are bringing the paid version. Just wait for it. As for those who still don’t want to pay but want to play without ads, move on to other games!
Ad blocker. ‘Nuff said.
Angry Birds works perfectly on my 1 year old phone.
It also works with adblock.
The ads about WindowsPhone7 are targeting Android users on purpose because Microsoft want Android users to jump to WindowsPhone7. That have nothing to do with Angry Birds.
The reason why Angry Birds has no paid version for Android is because they can gain much more money with advertising. Angry Birds devs won’t get rich by selling 0.99$ app one time and let the users use it forever. With ads, they are sure to get revenues as long as users are using it.
Would you like to pay a monthly fee to remove ads from Angry Birds ?
Video ads are absolutely rediculous. I almost uninstalled it because of them and I’m ADDICTED. They probably feel they can do what they want because its so wildly popular, but they need to change up their advertising campaign. They think they’re popular now, but just think how popular they would be if the gameplay was uninterrupted.
Yes they are frickin annoying. Just get into a screen and fullscreen ad. I want to support Rovio for creating a kick ass game but I don’t want an add to mess up my Pig smashing mojo.
AdFree Android…not sure about the new video ads i seen floating around, but i dont get no ads now :P
initially it was fun. then it became unplayable. then i uninstalled it. angry birds is turning into angry android users.
Dude, Rovio doesn’t pick which ads show up. They’re using a third party library (Not sure if its AdMob or Adsense but they’re both owned by Google). If anything, yell at the automatic ad system.
Personally, I don’t mind the ads, though I’m not addicted to Angry Birds so that might explain it.
I wouldn’t pay for Angry Birds (Not my type of game), but I’ve happily seen a couple thousand ads reloading the levels over and over and over again.
Agree ad blocker is the right app to use
Yeah, I got a custom ROM running with filtering ads option just to run it smoothly on my Acer Liquid E.
I planned to migrate to other ROMs but there aren’t any ad filtering options and it was lagging like an escargot
