Amazon accepting HTML5 apps and games for Fire TV and Fire TV Stick

Apps and games based on HTML5 will be heading to the Fire TV and Fire TV Stick. Why? Because Amazon extending its HTML5 web app publishing toolset to include support for its set-top box and streaming dongle. The company is making it possible for developers to take web apps running on Fire OS and bring them to the new television-connected devices. Now, apps can remain consistent across Amazon's various form factors.

These are additional features Amazon is giving developers access to:

  • Support for the Amazon Fire TV Remote
  • Support for analog input from the Amazon Fire TV Game Controller and other gamepads
  • Access to the In App Purchase (IAP) API via JavaScript
  • A new starter template app optimized for 10 foot experience for creating Fire TV HTML5 media apps
