Today Acer announced a new Acer Chromebox CXI line for the U.S. and Canadian markets. The new Chromebox CXI is a small unit that can stand on its own or be mounted in an out of the way place, like the stand for a monitor. The devices are designed for computer users that don't need mobility for their device and may be especially suitable for education, small business and budget-conscious users. According to Simon Hwang, president of Acer Stationary Computing and Display Business Group, “The Acer Chromebook CXI is an excellent fit for schools and any other institution or business where conserving costs and space are high priorities.”
Powered by an Intel Celeron processor, Acer will make two versions available, one with 2 GB of RAM and one with 4 GB of RAM. Acer has equipped the units with four USB 3.0 ports, including two with power off charging for smartphones and tablets. An SD card reader is included as well with support for up to a 32 GB SD card. The Chromebox CXI line includes HDMI and DisplayPort output options for displays. A USB keyboard and mouse are included, though they require a 65W AC adapter.
Acer will sell the units through major retailers starting in late September. The 2 GB version will have an MSRP of $179.99 while the 4 GB version will go for $219.99. You can read the full press release below.
