After several months of work to split their service into more discrete apps and reposition their Foursquare service, Foursquare has released the new version of their app to Google Play. Unlike the old Foursquare, this new version does not include check-in capabilities, leaving that to their companion app Swarm. The new version is focused on providing recommendations to users looking for places to eat, drink, shop or have fun. Foursquare also says the app will learn what you like and help you find places aligned with your interests. The app will even go so far as to help you pick a dish when you sit down for a meal.

The app was built on top of Foursquare's history of 6 billion check-ins, 55 million tips and 65 million places. As can be seen in the teaser video that was released, an extensive tagging system is also used to help people find just what they are looking for.
