While LG seems to be relatively bullish on the rest of the year's outlook, it may not be the case for the rest of the industry.

According to the DigiTimes, major Android smartphone vendors including Samsung, LG, Sony and HTC are expecting slow sales for the rest of of 2014, as China-based manufacturers expand their portfolios to include budget-based smartphones for the mid-range market. Other consumers are simply in wait-and-see mode on the upcoming iPhone 6, which is sure to make waves upon release.

Companies including Xiaomi, Huawei and Lenovo are now among the world's top five smartphone vendors, and are still experiencing rising market shares. Samsung, Sony and HTC have had worse than expected sales numbers for Q2 2014 and aren't expecting things to turn around too fast in the second half of 2014 either.

While LG experienced strong growth and forecasts the rest of the year to be good as well, others believe that competition for LG will remain tough for the second half of the year.

  1. tough really, because Android flagships has nothing new to offer in their spec race aside from qHD display resolution which at most require Snapdragon 805 at 3GB RAM. until 64 bit chips tag along with latest Android version that supports 64 bit computing, midrangers would continue to dominate until 2Q of 2015
