Samsung has partnered with Apical in a licensing deal that will bring the company’s Assertive Display technology to future Samsung phones. Samsung is hoping to address the usability issues that most displays seem to have when switching between lighting conditions.
Most phones and tablets on the market today have an auto-brightness feature. This feature will adjust the display’s brightness depending on what kind of environment you are in. It sounds great, but unfortunately, most manufacturers’ auto-brightness functions leave a lot to be desired. This inspired third party applications like Lux to pop up. But even in these cases, the experience isn’t quite seamless.
In order to really achieve a seamless auto-brightness experience, the technology has to implemented at the processor level. This is where Apical comes in.
Apical’s Assertive Display is perhaps the best and most advanced technology for accomplishing this. Obvious advantages are increased battery life and convenience, but it also makes sure your viewing your display under the perfect conditions all the time.
As of right now, the only device on the market featuring this technology is the Nokia Lumia 1520. However, in addition to Samsung’s Exynos processors, future Qualcomm Snapdragon processors will also feature this impressive technology.
