ASUS has continued to try to push some alternative form factors for mobile devices with its line of PadFone devices that try to merge smartphone and tablet forms. At the top of the line is the PadFone Infinity while the base model is a PadFone Mini. ASUS has now released a device to fill in the middle of the spectrum, the ASUS PadFone E.

The PadFone E comes equipped with a Snapdragon 400 chipset running at 1.4GHz, 1 GB of RAM, and a 4.7-inch 1280×720 screen on the smartphone. The “dock” brings a 10.1-inch 720p screen for phone to snap into and can charge the phone thanks to a 5,000 mAh battery. The device is available in Johnnie Walker Black or Pearl White. Sources indicate the PadFone E is expected to sell for about $560 USD (16,935 TWD) in Taiwan. It is unclear what other markets will see the device or what the schedule for availability is.
