Researcher Mordechai Guri at the Ben-Gurion University's Cyber Security Lab in Israel recently discovered a major vulnerability in Samsung's Knox security platform on the Galaxy S4. The flaw “could allow malicious software to track emails and record data communications.”
While Samsung is still investigating the claims, a Samsung spokesperson said that the allegations are not as serious as they might seem.
Samsung's devices are not yet cleared for use by government officials, and the government is aware of the newfound issues.
Once the investigation on the current security flaws is complete and the allegations are found to be correct, the issue could be categorized as a “category one” vulnerability within the government, the most serious category.
We'll see how Samsung plans to patch up the issue— they certainly will have to take action here, as it is currently pitching the Knox platform to officials in the U.S. Department of Defense and other government and corporate organizations.
