Sony just announced the availability of both the Xperia Z1 (pictured above) and the Xperia Z Ultra smartphones in the U.S. These are unlocked versions, so you are going to have to pay full retail, but you won't be tied down to a contract. The Xperia Z1 (C6902) supports UMTS HSPA+ 850 (Band V), 900 (Band VIII), 1700 (Band IV), 1900 (Band II), 2100 (Band I) MHz and GSM GPRS/EDGE 850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz. Unfortunately no LTE. It's priced at $649.99 at the Sony Store and select e-tailers such as Newegg. You have your choice of black, white, or purple.
The Xperia Z Ultra is being offered in both the HSPA+ (C6802) and LTE (C6806) versions. The HSPA+ version is priced at $649.99 and supports UMTS HSPA+ 900 (Band VIII) 2100 (Band I) MHz, 850 (Band V), 1900 (Band II), 1700 (Band IV) and GSM GPRS/EDGE 850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz. The LTE version is priced at $679.99 and adds in LTE Bands 1,2,4,5,7,8,17. Again, both are available at the Sony Store and select e-tailers. Color choices are the same: black, white, or purple.
