The war between Android and Apple or even Samsung and Apple will always be debated in many ways. Sometimes it's just as simple as market share, but a new statistic came out showing that Apple actually steals three times more smartphone customers from Samsung than Samsung does from Apple.
According to Consumer Intelligence Research Partners, LLC (CIRP), between July 2012 and June 2013, 33% of Apple's sales came from Samsung customers switching to the iPhone, while only 11% of Samsung sales came from Apple customers switching to Android. On the other hand, Samsung has been able to grab more first-time smartphone buyers than Apple (37% vs 26%). Both companies do pretty well when it comes to their core business, 43% of Samsung customers were upgrading from Android, while 42% of Apple customers were upgrading from an older iPhone.
Is this something that Samsung needs to be concerned about?

This convinces me that the article, Manish Rana, and talkandroid are corrupt or idiots. Last time I visit this bs.
Saying that “Apple actually steals three times more smartphone customers from Samsung than Samsung does from Apple” isn’t correct, because you’re not talking about real numbers, you’re talking about percentages of each company’s customer base, which are obviously not identical figures. If, for instance, Samsung sells exactly three times as many phones as Apple, then they steal exactly the same number of customers from each other. All of which makes this article garbage. (And I didn’t even get to the “premise is idiotic and doesn’t matter” argument.) Look, just please pay attention to the things you tout as fact. When you claim things are true that – from a mathematical standpoint – are not, your website loses credibility and you just look plain silly.
If Google has updates that are so screwed like the new Maps 7.xxx then I’m looking for either Apple or a Windows phone. Really Google Nav was the best of Google. It’s now the worst. Who is in charge at Google now days. Idiots I think.
Agree on Maps. The update sucks.
Now you will hear some good old fashioned crying. :D
If you read the Fortune article, it says: ” Twenty percent of Apple’s (AAPL) iPhone customers over the past year were switching from an Android phone, but only 7% of Samsung buyers had previously owned an iPhone, according to a new study released to Fortune”
So Samsung users don’t know how good is an iPhone.
ROTFLMAO! Nothing good about a phone without a removable battery, NFC, MicroSD, a small screen, etc. But hey, if you don’t know what a smartphone should offer . . . .
Actually what I think this data shows is that most iPhone users don’t do any research, where Android buyers do, and some determine that an iPhone is better for them.
It also probably indicates that many Android buyers buy low end phones, and then are unhappy with them.
Awww are you still on that? Poop baby. Hahahahah.
The graph doesn’t seem to say what the article says. What the article says seems somewhat unbelievable.
previous Android could be from much older ,cheaper android phones, not specifically a Galaxy or even a samsung. Considering there are far more low end Android users,
If those stats are not considered during market share study then why now?
Who cares? Beyond that, users tend to stay in their platform ecosystems. One interesting question to ask along side the Samsung customers going to Apple is whether they had any other Apple devices such as an iPod or iTouch, an iPad or a Mac. In other words how many were already iTunes users.
