Sure you can go into a carrier store and pick out a black or white Moto X, but how much fun is that? The real fun is choosing one of 18 colors for the back plate. You can even choose a different color for the accents. If you really want to get personal, you can add your name to the back plate as well. You can do all this and so much more with the motomaker website. Among customizing the outside appearance you can also add a message for the boot screen and pick what wallpaper you want to be the default when the device is shipped. It's really quite simple. Motorola reps were comparing it to building your own car. Some of us have a closer relationship with our phones so why not make it more personal by getting what you want?

Unfortunately, it's only going to be available for AT&T customers at the time of launch, but other carriers such as Verizon, will be onboard shortly thereafter. You have two choices. You can prepay for the device at the carrier store, and they will give you a voucher to use online. Or you can just go ahead and buy it online and skip the carrier store completely. One advantage to going to the store is you can see the different colors in person.

The best part of it is that not only will your Moto X be assembled in the U.S.A, but you will have it at your door within 4 days with no extra shipping charges.

One other thing to note is that if you custom design your Moto X using motomaker, you will also have the option of grabbing the 32GB version for $50 more ($240 total). This 32GB version won't be available in stores. Here's a quick video showing you how easy it is to order your Moto X just the way you want it.

  1. yeah it’s very much like building your own car.
you don’t get many options and the ones you get are pretty much cosmetic.
