DaVinci Video Processors Bring New Possibilities to Android

Texas Instruments has a new set of video processors out that are making some pretty big claims. The new DaVinci DM37x combine a 1GHz ARM Cortex and 800MHz C64x+ DSP, and enable 720p HD video. According to TI, the new hardware “offers 50 percent increase in ARM performance, 40 percent increase in DSP performance, double the graphics performance with 40 percent less power consumption over OMAP3530 device”.

Those are some pretty big expectations. Texas Instruments says that their new video hardware has support for both Linux and Android as of right now, and support for Windows CE should be coming in Q4 of this year. Full presser below.

$399 Android tablet expected by end of this year

notioninkadam

Android tablets have been in the news a lot lately, with the upcoming Samsung Galaxy tablet, and the recently announced Motorola-Verizon offering.  It seems as if a new kid is coming to town in the form of a device from Indian start-up Notion Ink.  The tablet, called Adam, will merge Android with an NVIDIA Tegra SoC, as well as a Pixel QI transflective display.  The device will also feature a rear touchpad and a camera that rotates 180-degrees.  Notion Ink founder Rohan Shravan had the following to say:

The product will shoot for FCC certifications in the second week of November. And then it depends on them. Currently we will ship LCD and PQ Variants, both available in Wi-fi only and 3G modes. I believe you will get a range of around $399 to $498 for these four.

Shravan has also said he hopes to build a team of dedicated app developers to bring some unique elements to Adam. There is word yet as to when the device will be released, or if there are plans to expand beyond the market in India.

Details about the Samsung Galaxy tablet emerge

Samsung-Android-Tablet

It seems as if the firmware for the European Samsung Galaxy tablet has leaked, and is finally giving us some clues as to what the device has in store.   The firmware has a build date of August 10, 2010, and features some of the following important details:

  • Screen resolution 480 x 800
  • Camera Max resolution 2048 x 1536
  • Camcorder Max resolution 2048 x 1536 (unconfirmed)
  • Front cam Max resolution 240 x 320
  • CPU Profile ARM11
  • CPU Core S5PC110
  • CPU speed 1.0 GHz
  • Flash
  • GPS
  • Wi-Fi
  • SyncML support
  • Swype
  • JavaScript 1.5
  • Bluetooth
  • Android 2.2

The only thing that seems a bit unusual is the 480 x 800 screen resolution, which is slightly confusing on a 7 inch device.  Hopefully this aspect is subject to change, but for now we’ll stay on the lookout for more information as it becomes available.

With the ease of installing IP security cameras these days any IT consultant with half a brain should be adding cameras to their proposals as they are a nice simple way of generating extra revenue. The biggest issue these days is actually what to do once you have the cameras installed. Sure most of them can record to disk, but what if you are away from the office and want to do know right now what is happening on multiple locations? So far the answer is to bring up multiple web pages, its fairly clunky and doesn’t give you any real options, so what if you could manage multiple cameras very easily on your phone? Continue reading after the break to learn how Tiny DVR brings you this level of functionality.
