Earlier today Sharp debuted another 7-inch tablet similar to the one debuted a few months back. While killing off both the 10.8 and 5.5 inch models, Sharp showed continued support for its 7 inch line. Masami Obatake, a general manager for one of Sharp’s consumer product divisions informed reporters that they will continue bringing out new products. With that said, the Galapagos EB-A71GJ-B sports some decent features.
The tablet has a 7-inch screen with a 1024×600 resolution. Running Honeycomb 3.2, it will feature a Tergra-2 dual-core processor. There is a chance that it may see Ice Cream Sandwich but there is no official word on it. It will have 8GB of internal storage with a micro SD slot for additional storage. Both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth will be intergrated and it will feature WiMax support. This will allow the Galapagos to act much like a Wi-Fi router with the ability to tether up to seven other devices. The device will also have a rear 5MP and a 2MP frontside camera. There will also be an HDMI out port for TV viewing.
While there is no say as to when this tablet will be seen in the United States it appears that this tablet will go on sale in Japan on December 17th. As there are no details on pricing, it will be hard to determine if it will even make a debut here in the US. Given that it was rumored that Sharp would debut a 7-inch tablet in August, a lot of questions still need to be answered. A source says that this will be released on September 12th however, as it is Mid-November this may be a typo as it is also hard to believe that a tablet with these specs will arrive in September of 2012.
