Nexus S Ice Cream Sandwich update brings some bugs

by Robert Nazarian
tagged

We were happy that Google released the Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Nexus S, but it looks like there might be a few bugs that need to be ironed out. Apparently some people aren’t able to send or receive MMS messages. Others are reporting that the Google+ instant update doesn’t work. These should be minor and easily fixed. How about you guys? Are you experiencing any of these bugs or anything else?

Probably missing APN’s for MMS sending. Instant update works like it supposed to, but if you disable Google Photos sync in Gallery app or in Accounts&Sync settings, then the Instant Upload is disabled.

    • Yizhaq

its nothing to do with apns, cheked it and still no mms.

      • http://twitter.com/tadejkolino Tadej Rudec

Well, after yesterdays update, I just received a holiday MMS from my operator.

I dont have faceunlock… is it ok?

  • SergeFR

Hi guys. Sorry for my bad english i’m french :-)
I have a problem with my Nexus S under Ice Cream Sandwich : when I receive a phone call, the caller name is not displayed even if I got it in my contacts. That’s very bad to know who is calling me !!!
No other problem at this time

    • Stanradnev

Same problem with the contacts. A solution might be the adding of the county code in front of the contact, but this seems very annoying, since u have to do it with all of your contacts. Waiting to see if anyone comes with a better solution

    • Xinnerz

      +1

  • odd

No bugs or oddities seen on my Nexus S – Videotron

  • Oratihsus

I can’t receive or send MMS either. Plus, I don’t get notification for new yahoo email even though the notification set up is on

  • Jezzie

i updated yesterday and my nexus s just ran to a stand still. i had no RAM left at all, i’ve had to delete half my apps just to get it working…

    any ideas??

  • Nomail

I got a notice that the update was out so I started letting it go, but when the countdown started to restart, it canceled itself and said “system is up to date”. I think it’s been pulled. :(

  • Woezelmann

    @8f838d72e16fc4059cbca77f28d0d84e:disqus
Got the same problem, restart was canceled…

  • Mark Shaw

    Same problem, cancelled restart :-(

  • Mikem

Same here… I pressed “more info” before accept and the count down just stopped and the system didn’t update.

    • Javier Rosas

same here… could you manage to update? please post how to

  • Kemsleyalan

Countdown stopped and did not install. Now it says up to date but it’s still Gingerbread!

  • Jayb4480

I JUST GOT ICECREAM SANDWICH ON NEXUS S IN AUSTRALIA AND IT DIDNT RESTART AFTER DOWNLOAD IT SAID UP TO DATE BUT STILL HAVE VERSION 2.3.6

    • Mrcool123

Same here. Everything looked ok, but it didnt restart after installation. Weird and annoyning. It says that its up to date but still 2.3.6. Aaargh

      • Shawn Jiang

did you click “more info” before installing?

        • Javier Rosas

          I did and it didn’t update u.u

I wanted more info because I didn’t wanted to lose my contacts, anybody knows if it keeps your contacts?

          • Shawn Jiang

it should. I sync my contacts with my google account so it doesn’t matter. I can’t wait for the OTA so I’m installing it manually. :)

          • Javier Rosas

            I guess that’s what I’ll do

    • Shawn Jiang

did you click “more info” before installing?

  • Mrcool123

I’ll try calling samsung in the morning. Its late here in norway. Seeing as people all over the world reported bugs a few hours ago, it may be that they pulled the update. Still, its strange that the still let us download the update but not install it…

  • Shawn Jiang

    same here,
pressed “more info” and the system says ‘up to date’, but i’m still on 2.3.6!!! help!!!!

    • Nivinm

      same here.

  • Maf_87

wow we all get the same problem, reboot & installation never took place. hope they sort it out soon.

    • Shawn Jiang

      I’m installing it manually.

      • Javier Rosas

I installed it manually, but now my screen is too dark, even when I set the brightness value to maximun. My screen is SLCD.

        How did you go?

  • Anduz001

I know this has been said, but yeah I basically went away and came back to a happy, but otherwise unchanged, not upgraded phone. Nothing happened! So yep, still on 2.3.6.

  • Hamzeh

Did Google cancel the upgrade? I had the upgrade notification on my phone earlier today but now it is gone!!
    I dont wanna upgrade manually…

  • Omegak77

I got my OTA update this afternoon and I did not have problems!!!!!! The update took about fifteen minutes to load over 3g and WHAM DONE!!!! NOW I have not no problems sending or getting texts/mms but the 3G SIGNAL AND WIFI GOING ON AND OFF IS STILL A PROBLEM!!!!!!!! NOW I DON’T KNOW IF IT’S A SOFTWARE PROBLEM OR IF I LIVE IN BAD TMO AREA ( WA US) BUT THESE PROBLEMS MUST GET FIX NOW!!!!!!! Other than no FACELOCK???????? THE UPDATE ON THE NEXUS S IS HOT!!!!!!!!!!

  • Jim

Have installed the update without any issues, though it seems to eat battery power even when the phone has minimal processes running. It looks good but its functionality is nothing superior to any previous OS…should be great when further updates arrive including apps specifically designed for ICS.

  • Honesty

i got ota update 2days ago but now the wifi is not working,i posted everywhere,i dont know what to do,its a big problem, plz help me

  • Lexilovesdaddy

I just got the update few hours ago and cannot view YouTube only sound

  • Juviken

Updated OTA to Ice cream yesterday on nexus S but now the earplug connection does not work. Tried to connect the phone in the car with the “normal” music cable but still nothing. The sound stays in the phone and are not transmitted to external speakers.
    Anyone having this problem?

  • Rscoular

Same happened to me as to many other people. The reboot and install never happened and I’m still on Gingerbread even though it says I’m up to date =(

  • Woodyowl@hotmail.co.uk

Got the notification, installed, verified and then the countdown begun for the re start: 10,9, 8,7, 6 and nothing. My version is up to date ‘apparently’! Annoying!

  • Terry

My update is showing some bugs as well. Mainly minors bugs but super annoying ie. the touchscreen not switching off when raise to your ear (really when trying to use a call menu) and 2nd is issues unlocking to answer a call it can sometimes take a few goes to get it right or I have to call back.

  • Vanhalen

I updated with no problems during the install, but now that it is up and running I have the following problem: My contacts appear as the phone number instead of the contact name. Some do, some don´t, all with the same area code and stuff. And besides that, the ones that do appear with their names in an MMS don´t appear like that on my WhatsApp. Any one with this problem??

    • Malhotrakurran

I have this problem too – any fix?

      • Tuomas Juhani

same problem here, some contacts ok, some missing a name/number….

    • Gallyb

I found the same issue, what I have done is go into call log, add number to existing contact and delete original contact, this will not work for contacts synced with Skype as their numbers can’t be edited

    • Abhishekmukherjee41

I have the same problem……hope google fixes this bug ASAP :(

  • Surya_arora

update got downloaded on my NEXUS S but system did not rebooted..still have 2.3.6 :(

    • Lars r

      same problem here

  • Abdul Mannan

After updating my nexus s to OTA ICS 4.0.3, GSM module stops working unexpectedly.

  • Tony

Hi everyone, got my update 2days ago, since then ms not working, now I can’t download anything from the market or anywhere else. anyone with the same problem?
    Samsung nexus s.
    Toronto Canada

  • Nachiketakashyap

Manually updated with stock OTA ICS 4.0.3 download link, everything works smoothly, CPU usage as well as battery life has improved than it was on 2.3.6, running same number off apps simultaneously! Checked the bugs posted here, none are an issue so far! (face unlock is all that seems missing).

    • Gadsha

can you provide me with the link to that rom, there most be something with the rom since we all have the same hardware, i want to check if my wifi works with your rom, thanks.

  • Gadsha

I update my nexus s to ics 4.0.3 an hour ago, now the WiFi is not working, i scan the wireless networks, but nothing is showing up to connect to, any suggestions??!!

  • Belindahuang93

Can ‘ t download anything or update any apps in market.

    • Oratihsus

I had the same issue and the tech guy told me to erase proxy number and I was able to download and update apps from market again… still have issue with sending and receiving MMS though

  • Ambrish S

@hamzeh … just read on phandroid, Google has put the update on hold. Some bugs have been reported., mainly battery drain related. Other issues similar to the ones mentioned here have also been posted by users from all regions.

My guess is, Google is gonna fix these issues and come out with a new release.

I think 4.0.3 is the most current available through the manual update mode.

But going by the reviews, I would wait for the teething problems to be sorted before I update to ICS. :-)

    • Hamzeh

      Me too… thanks man… :-)

  • http://twitter.com/ilincic Milić Ilinčić

My Nexus S now doesn’t recognize some of my contacts! Almost all the contacts that don’t have country code in it…

    • Michael Hajioannou

Yeh, This is happening to me to. in the SMS message app, the names for some contacts are not displaying even though they are in my address book! Seems random though as to which ones!

      • Tavi

I have the same problem in the sms app and dailer. I modified the country code from 00 to + and it works most of the time though not always.

  • Andranikg

After updating I lost wifi connectivity, but the tethering works.

  • DCooper

Switch WiFi on at home on Sunday morning here in the UK and got the notification on my Nexus S that the update was ava so downloaded and installed it…all ok no issues once rebooted.  Everything seems to be there apart from Face Unlock so looks like a feature that Google are going to withold…otherwsie why would anyone want to upgrade to the new Google Nexus?  A bit like Apple and Siri!!  May have helped that my phone is stock and not rooted.  There is only one (very basic mobile) feature currently not working with is the sending/receiving of MMS (well on the Vodafone UK network at least).  Tis is a bit disappointing a mobile that can’t even send MMS!?!  I know with WIFi/3G other, newer apps can send/receive pictures videos etc, but pretty useless that MMS isn’t working.  Fiddled with APN settings like, forever, but with no result…nothing, nada, zilch!

  • Tuomas Juhani

FINLAND: The installation went ok over 3g, took about 10 minutes, after install MMS messages disabled. Tried to reset the mms APN, no help…Anyone else in northern europe having these problems? Everything else seems to be ok, the apps are working a little faster, especially the picture gallery etc. haven’t tried it on wifi yet….

  • hamid

    my wifi doesn’t work :’(

  • howard

installed stock 4.0.3 directly from google yesterday. after install, wifi shows connected and ip assigned, but doesn’t load any webpages, market or news/weather. same issue happened to friend as well.
i’m using nexus S model AWS version.  (Wind mobile)

  • Sevennukes

Did the update It’s on stock phone running 2.3.6. Everything works great, battery life has improved, and Wi-Fi works without issue. I did factory reset and format the sd card prior to update though.

The only problem I’ve seen is that the new mail widget, which I was really excited about, never updates when new mail arrives. Mail account is exchange (activesync).

  • Jeff

LOS ANGELES – Updated two days ago.  All is fine EXCEPT I ALWAYS get an SMS failed messag which allows me to send copies of texts to my email.

  • Revremy

I can’t sync my contacts to Facebook and I can’t open MMS messages with pics. Also, the app Widgetsoid won’t work now. I switched to ICS from MIUI. I think I will go back to MIUI.

  • Himal Hirani

Can’t see contact names in call log even tho they are in my contacts directory. Annoying as can’t see who I’ve called or who missed called me without dialing the number first.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=605130854 Margery Duda

I want my old operating system back now! My phnone crahses constantly if I turn WiFi OFF and is otherwise very frustrating to oerate and navigate around and has a mind of its own and crashes constantly.  I am better off forgetting that I have it than dealing with the constant frustration.
I have the option to send it back to Samsung for repair for 14 business days – hopefully to reset back to old oerating system which was working JUST FINE.
What should I do?  Wait for Google to fix this mess and put up with a new operating suystem that I am not satisfied with, or send in for repair not knowing what will come back in 14 days?

  • felix

i cannot send any type of MMS-picture,video or audio.
    annoying!
    i`m using samsung nxus s

  • George Polzer

I keep getting “Unfortunately, Google+ has stopped working” or something like that.  Also my SeekDroid won’t work neither will Linkedin’s App?  How do we find out if Google knows about these errors and when they plan to fix them and release an upgrade?

  • Mankidraiv

Can’t recieve some SMS, just after I restart the phone, than I can. Mobile 3g internet doesn’t work.Recognizing contactsneed time. Some apps crash sometimes. And some other problems…I forgot. All that after this update. Hope Google will fix it soon as they can.

  • Marijus Kalesinskas

I have a major problem since the update five days ago – I cannot make the outgoing calls most of the time and sometimes the phone loses the connection to the carrier altogether, stayting a SIM card error.

It is very frustrating, no news when Google is going to fix it – I almost feel like Google should call me personally and apologize for the inconvenience…

  • Eibs85

I got my update a few days ago and I hate it. BBC I player doesn’t work, auto rotate doesn’t work, when someone rings it only brings up their number not their contact name and the battery life is now rubbish. These are a just a few problems, this update is shit!

  • Firestar156

Cant send or receive MMS and its christmas Grrr

    • Firestar156

Also to get my contacts to show you have to change all mobile numbers to +44
Hotmail App craches if you click a link in an email or when you send an email but the msg does go.
im not sure if the MMS problem is the settings under network
if anyone has the setting for MMS for O2 can they post them as my settings has now server addresses

  • Sscottesq

I hate the “upgrade” to ice cream .sandwich. how do I get my old system back?

  • Goatfucker

I got the update and everything is working the right way OS 4.0.3

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=792000537 Joel Taylor

Can’t send or receive pictures by MMS, my contacts don’t seem to connect with messaging so I only get a number when someone texts me, not a name. Google Nexus S

  • 1slongster

No dam moms capability. Also slow keyboard performance when horizontal… shite goggle.. shite

  • Xx

it seems double the usage of the battery… and some apps may not run on it… such as viber, cant use after update to 4.0.3

  • Jessevr1

On screen buttons for power off and airplane mode not responding ( the pop up when you hold down power)
the three buttons for the ringer in the same pop up work

  • Aftab Sayed

drops the network connection and cant get it back up until a reset… other wise all seems well..

    • Marijus Kalesinskas

Hi, please share what country and network you are experiencing the problem with. As posted below I have a similar problem (network drops when I try to make an outgoing call) on Tele2 network in Lithuania and Latvia after the phone was updated to ICS.

After reading the loads of problem reports of the ICS, I hate to say it, but – is Google becoming Microsoft with this version of Android?.. :-/

  • Tree-_-sa

I have nexus s and I also updated to ice cream sandwich. And I can’t download from android market or update any app I had previously installed. Please fix it asap!!!!

  • guest

some of my contact names does not appear in the messaging and call history lists

  • Beenz06

severe battery drain until i cant even turn my phone on

  • joshm

Yes. Can’t see contact names in my phone log either even though they are in phone book.

  • Firuzh

I also jumped in to ICS , seing the update ,regret , bugs everywhere ,lags etc the main problem no wifi ….. loaded with my previous apps on 2.3.6   ics is running very slow. My 2.3.6 was running like a jevel ,I wish I could go back …Nexus S

  • http://twitter.com/winkelmania Chris Winkelman

yes..I am not able to send MMS messages here in NS canada as well, I called my provider and it sounded like they never heard of this before.. and by the sounds of it. I will not be enjoying sending MMS to people anymore.

  • Anonymous

Used the 2.3.6 upgrade on XDA. Only crap thing is battery. Average day is about 15 hours.

  • http://www.facebook.com/lyall.craig Martin Craig

I’ve been using Ice Cream Sandwich for a week or two now and found quite a few things to like. I like the side scroll layout for the Apps launcher with easy access to widgets and the market place. I also like being able to group Apps into folders on the home screens, but the things that are not working properly are really beginning to grate! The problem of not being able to see a callers name in the incoming calls list is really irritating as is the shorter battery life. Worst or all is the BBC iPlayer not working or anything that uses Flash! So in summing up, apart from a few apparent functional and user interface tweaks I wished I kept the previous Android version!

  • Red-girly

I hate the new version! The layout of everything seems like a step back to me. I used to like the layout but it’s now the same as other handsets. The auto rotate sticks. I can’t see who’s calling or texting, just a number. I constantly have to reset because my Wi-Fi connection sticks…there are other issues. Battery life is also ridiculous! I would like to go back to my old settings

    • M H

can you fix it now or stiil the same problem?i have the same problem as you!!

  • Hea

I jumped on the ICS update as well and now the power button will not respond. So I cannot turn the screen on and off.  Very frustrating!!!

  • Fostersserviceshvac

This is by far the worst update I have ever downloaded!! Of course the features are nice, but they don’t work!! I power off my phone 2-3 times a day!!! It helps a little, but that’s ridiculous. I just want gingerbread back!! Or I really have to think about switches phone, AGAIN!

  • Fradders

Updated my nexus s to ICS 4.0.3 a couple of weeks ago from an OTA update. Nice upgrade but so many niggles in apps as described by Red-Girly and Martin Craig below, and battery life was a nightmare! Phone wouldn’t last 5 hours.

So, just for the hell of it I did a system reset, and its a massive improvement. Battery life is back to Gingerbread levels and apps work fine. Stock browser still is a bit flakey but otherwise its a good upgrade. Try it!

  • Adrian

My Phone’s battery it’s ok after the update , but i get alot of “Unfortunately , (programs) has stopped.” …. i hate it , on my galaxy tab p1000 every app works , here … the yahoo messenger , facebook , navigation … alot of games … do not work!!!

  • Javier

my nexus S slowed down with update seems like the phone is having a hard time to keep up with the software, but what really annoys me is that some pictures over take other pictures O_o so I can see the thumbnails and as soon as I expanded it another picture comes up on the screen, and the previews picture despair, also I have notice that some times I try to copy a sms and paste something else?

  • Luciana

with the Ice Cream Sandwich update i don’t have zoom in my camera on nexus S

    • B.K.

      Nexus S never had a camera zoom…

  • Zcxtek

I updated my nexus s to Android 4.0 .3 and I am generally happy with this operating system. I have one major problem. The email app does not seem to check for email and notified me of new email.

Everything else seems to work fine except for face recognition and camera zoom.

  • Frank T

Achter the ICS update no MMS and no GPS anymore. Hope it will be fixed very quickly…

  • shelli

i cant receive picture messages are send out any from i download 4.0.3 on my nexus s phone cant you please help me fix it

  • http://twitter.com/David_Wickes David Wickes

Google News and Weather – the onboard app – just burnt through my data usage. Between the 4th and the 17th it used 910MB of data, of which 1.39 was foreground. Just clamped down on that with the data usage. But that’s got to be a record, right?

  • Stefan Petrescu888

I updated nexus s to 4.0.3 there seems to be a general problem with accessing data. Mms doesnt work unless I’m on wifi, online radio and market place also periodically don’t work on data, only on wifi. I doubt its my network cause on gingerbread there were no issues. No Mms on cellular data is huge problem…

  • Eddie Jones

When I receive my first call of the day my phone does not ring—only vibrate—-I stress this only happens on the first call

  • Carl

Updated to ICS, but can’t control 3g access anymore (blocked). I can only go on wifi…

  • Akashasmum2003

I loved my Google Nexus S when I bought it in the summer.  When Ice Cream Sandwich came out my hubby said it was suppose to be a good thing.  So when I got the notice I just did it.  Since then my battery won’t keep a charge longer than 4 hrs.  I can’t get my MP3 player to continuously play music.  When my battery does run dry, once I get it on the charger it does this little display of an adroid and some kind of message comes up with it.  When receiving a call my phone will often NOT ring but just vibrate or go straight to voice message.
At first I thought this was because I’m not very technological…. kind of technologically impaired so I kept thinking I was messing up on things.  Not noticing I turned something off or confused what I thought I had done.  My hubby borrowed my phone and he got really upset with it.  So obviously its not my impairment but Ice Cream Sandwich has screwed an excellent phone.
As my father would say… if it ain’t broke don’t fix it!

    • Kimomallon

I agree. I loved my nexus s and I’m not technology savvy either. Got the upgrade yesterday and I HATE it. It has made a great phone pretty much unusable. Google don’t fix what isn’t broken!

  • Taha Khan

LOL.. free software has its price.. :)

  • Kylee

I personally am having issues with ICS on my Samsung Nexus S phone – I can’t send or recieve MMS, even though it has been enabled with my provider (yes, I did check that!), nor can I hook into my WiFi (and yes, that is on and working fine — my Wii connects fine, my laptop and my brothers phone all connect to it just fine!)  When I turn Wifi on in the settings, it just tells me there is a connection error!  I’ve tried it with my other brothers wifi at his house, and also with a friends WiFi, and it keeps telling me the same thing!!!!!!!

Not happy at all that I spent good money on this phone, and now I can’t send MMS or get on WiFi to update my apps, and I’m certainly not going to sit around and waste my prepaid data on updating apps using 3G, which at best is 2 bars inside my house, but outside is full reception!
I’m with Telstra (Australia), and I think I’m just going to put my pennies away (so to speak) and get a brand new HTC or Galaxy or something…

    Not happy, Google. Not happy.

  • Math

Hello, sorry for my bad english, I’m french, but for receiving MMS, I have found a solution for my case. I received a message that told me that I have received an MMS but I couldn’t download it. Finally, I have modified proxy settings for MMS and the problem is solved, it works very well. It seems that android haven’t got the correct settings for each telecom service provider. So try to find the correct settings for your.

  • Iarmstrong2010

I just updated to ICS on my Nexus S and now my messages and call register have no contact names assigned to the numbers even though they are in the contact list, anyone know how to fix this?

    • drf

Yeah this is confirmed for me too with Samsung Galaxy S2

      • Iarmstrong2010

I sorted this issue by doing a factory reset, even though the operating system was brand new!

        • S Lim

there’s an easy fix for this. delete you Google account off the phone then add it back. You never used to be able to do this withou t factory reset but seems you can now..that fixed it for me. This is a known problem..the other fix is to change all the phone numbers to E164 format e.g. +61234567890

          • Amymkay

This fix worked for me. I deleted my Google account and re-added it, syncing back all of my data. Contacts now all displaying properly. Thanks!

  • http://www.bigfatostrich.com/ Mike O.

So far so good after my update to ICS on my Nexus S. The only thing that seems flaky is mounting the phone in my car via USB. Used to work flawlessly, now it connects 1 out of 10 tries. Highly annoying.

  • Saad

After updating to ICS my asus eee pad automatically turns off only if it’s in stand by mod like if I went to bathroom and turned off the screen it automatically shuts off and then I have to press the power button to turn it on.

  • Winme

After upgrading my Galaxy S2 to ICS the Mail app will not connect to my Exchange server over data connection, no problems whatsoever over WiFi. Gmail app on the other hand works fine over data.

  • Kent

After Upgrading My ASUS Transformer Prime I’ve found tht the exchange email client will always crash when i try to set it up. Not sure if its the fault of this recent update, or ICS but it is annoying in the extreme. All other email works fine.

  • Bonnie Lampard

I’ve been stuck in safe mode on my Nexus S since the update. Resetting to factory settings and doing a battery pull haven’t fixed it. :-(

    • Art Yri

Mine is also stuck in safe mode.  Did you figure it out?

      • Zirch

Pull out the battery while phone is on, then turn it on again

a notice came today to upgrade to ice cream sandwich and i did. now i cannot charge or connect my nexus s with my computer. anybody had the same problem? what did you do to fix it?

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/E3F52LYWE2QI4NG4JJ3IBTBLHQ Marianna

ok, after reading and trying several procedures on my nexus s with no result, i thought to restart my nexus s. after that it can be charged and connects with my pc. i hope it keeps working. if it was only that that needed to be done, i feel very stupid trying all crazy staff..

    • frf

Mine says it’s not charging but it is .. I HATE the update.  The phone is slow now and keeps glitching and rebooting … Does anyone know how to go back?

    • Vsihaman

I am having the same problem.  Sometime rebooting the phone helps but it is random.  It works sometimes and not others.  I’d like to know if there is fix as well.

    • Rubenbullet

Cannot send video now from text, cannot clear contacts from favorites anymore, even with frequently c all app doesn’t work e

  • Anchal

I recently upgraded my Samsung Nexus S to ICS 4.0.4. Now there seems to have issue with app download from Google Play. Every time I try to download some app, it shows an error saying “Error downloading 405″. Has anyone faced the same problem? Please let me know if there is any solution to it.

  • Kacperkoziol001

My phones data usage is gliched and now I can’t set a Max. Usage I am paying ike crazy!!!!!

  • Ahmet

After updating when I receive text messages the number comes up instead of name so I dont know who is messaging me without calling the number. Also it doesn’t say which is my text I.e. different colour for sent/received messages

  • UNHAPPY

ever since i updated my nexus s to ics, i have a hard time connecting to wifi!!!! sometimes it connects but often it doesn’t! i hate ics, i wish i never updated it to ics. i never had problems with connectivity before. is there any way to downgrade it to gingerbread again???

  • annoyed!

Since updating my phone doesn’t vibrat. Is getting annoying as I constantly have my phone on vibrate only!! Anyone know how to fix it?? And yes I have gone into settings over and over again to make sure vibrations are turned on!

  • Weapuh

My nexus s no longer identifies contacts calling me.

  • strawberryy

I only just got this update yesterday, I was reading a book through the web and had to close it. Does anyone know how to open the history page for Nexus S ? :( (

  • Vscalder

My phone now auto reboots a couple times EVERY hour!

  • http://twitter.com/SethWilliamson Seth Williamson

I thought the new camera was supposed to have zoom, but I cant get it to work

  • Frustrated >:|

Ever since my phone updated i can’t send or receive picture mail. I’ve tried rebooting my phone, but it still doesn’t work. I thought the camera was supposed to have zoom…yeah can’t find it! I’m over it.

  • Pointblankgirl

it sucks. Don’t know why they released it with all of these issues. My contacts names are in my phone, but when I get texts and calls it doesn’t show the name, only a phone number. annoying. Sounds like other people are having way bigger issues though…hope they get this piece of crap fixed soon

    • E1essar

I’m having the same problems!  The names of the people in my contacts aren’t showing up when I get a call or text message.  Is there no way to fix this?

So far that’s the only thing screwy about it…. :(

      • Paulo Gonc

I have the same problem, just in calls, when i’m receiving a call i can not see the name, just the number. It seems that is slow accessing the list because sometimes it appears. :(

    • DisgruntledNexusSuser

I had this problem too, Just started re-saving the people and it quit doing it.

  • Ryan

I hate this update. Main reason is in your contacts. It has large icons for your favorites. But non of these people show are a fav. And there is now way to remove then from the favorites unless you delete the contact. Also you can’t collapse and of your contacts. If you have one persons with 3 or even 10 different numbers its going to show all of them and it just takes longer to scroll down your list. Definitely not good for a business person.

  • Latinspigger

Since upgrading to this stupid ics my screen is permanently on landscape mode and on rare occasions does it rotate back but not I am stick using my phone as a damn tablet !!!!

  • Emricks

Only thing i noticed is that the camera now takes two separate shots for every button push.

  • Tumbler3269

i am experiencing very poor battery sustainability, it never charges fully(only to around 93-95) and it dies when it hits about 30-43 percent life. no problems with any applications or phone calls, just the battery,,,i have to charge it several times throughout the day and its getting very frustrating! please fix and send updated OS upgrade or update for us Nexus S users. oh and btw, i have changed out the battery to a brand new out of the package one and it hasnt helped at all , sprint even sent for a new phone and ive kept on having the same problems. so any help would be much appreciated

  • Mjp12

My problems started after Ice Cream Sandwich download. I can send and receive MMS texts, but not photos. I spent more than 2 hours on the phone with my provider and with Samsung. I learned it is definitely a provider issue (Koodo in my case) but they admit they know nothing about ICS because they don’t have it or any info on it. The closest thing I got to a fix for the MMS issue results in the text message and a “Download” icon for the photo. But the download won’t work and I still can’t get the photo. Has anybody figured this MMS problem out?

    • avram daniel

Same problem here, (Nexus S with Koodo) Ginger Bread was way much better. I also went to U.S. used the same Nexus S with Staight Talk and yes! I was able to send and receive MMS. But not wiht Koodo after updating to ICS. I hate the contacts now, they put the icons in the right side, i cant see them anymore since I am using my phone with my rigth hand mostly, also the DTMF tones are toooooooo long now, if you have set up your number let`s say to your back followed by your ACC# you hear that tones and are so ignoing, you must turn off the “dial tones“ in order to make it working. I wish I would roll it back :( …. there is a way… but is not something released by Google. :( ICS is a piss.

  • Dnast

I hate the new operating system and want the old one back.  It was much better.  The look of everything now is horrible.  And I haven’t even discovered what glitches are going to apparently appear according other posts here.  How do I get the old os back???

  • Mateovc6

I don’t know why, but i had it in my pocket with about 80% battery and when i took it out the battery was drained. I got home and charged it. When i turned it on every application sent me notifications that it stopped (force close), and now when i try and open pretty much anything it just closes.

  • Ldmerette

Cannot reveive my mail anymore … i will try to reset the mail setings

    • Cshockwave

BASED ON MY EXPERIENCE, ANDROID IS AN UNSTABLE FIRMWARE AND WILL KEEP ON UPDATING TO OVER COME BUGS AS NEW VERSIONS OF ANDROID WHICH WILL OVER RIDE MOST OF THE STABLE FEATURES AND FUNCTIONS TO MALFUNCTION, I HAVE NEXUS S WHICH I DOWNGRADED FROM ICS 4.0.3 TO GRB 2.3.4 TRUST ME GRB IS THE BEST BEING OUTDATED IT IS STILL STABLE AND WORKS WITH NO ERRORS, ICS IS NOT ADVISABLE ON NEXUS S AND ANDROID UPDATES ARE NOT AN OS UPDATE BUT BUGS UPDATE. PLEASE DO NOT UPGRADE YOUR NEXUS S TO ANY VERSION OF ICS.

  • markferg

Very much regret getting taken in by the ICS hype. On Sensation XE and is it just me or is it slow!

My major problem is no longer able to see “Sent Items” in email. Maybe not an issue for everybody but its a major flaw for our corporate users. Points to ActiveSync issue and Exchange 2003 and ICS.

Overall find it slower, inconsistant in performance and buggy.

And STOP telling me .”Android is Updating Optimising Applications” every time I switch my phone on.

Would love to rollback to Gingerbread.

    • Adrian

Its just a different way you need to view send, touch the bottom left options button and touch “folders” then select the folder you want to view.

  • BakaDewy

Well yeah ever since the update for sandwich ive been getting random reboots everytime and its getting really annoying does anyone know the solution to this? im using the Nexus S.

Please email me BakaDewy@live.com.au help would be appreciated!

  • Cheris

I can’t receive txt messages though it allows me to send them. My service provider said I may need to go back to factory settings if it isn’t resolved in 72hrs. LAME SANDWICH error 404 not cool!!!!

  • Cheris

I have a Nexus S and it’s not letting me receive txt messages. I just installed it less 2 days ago. Ginger bread was better.

  • Cheris

I have a Nexus S and it’s not letting me receive txt messages. I just installed it less 2 days ago. Ginger bread was better.

  • Theoatsies

Yes. No MMS and it turns itself off and on again at completely random intervals. Checked if any apps like battery saver have clashed but this is not the issue. Google, please fix ASAP

  • Amanda

Since the update, its been 4 days… and I find a delay in my phone when I’m typing and what shows on the screen. I can receive text messages and send them. And I can receive picture messages but I can’t send them. They just keep saying sending for until I pull my battery. That just started happening yesterday. And contacts that text me that weren’t in my inbox while I updated come up as just the number, I have to readd them to my “people” I have the nexus s

  • Wify2cb

I have a nexus s Google and my games, such as farm story and fashion story have been crashing since the update. I would say I got the ice cream update about 3 weeks ago. Started glitching while writing this message. Other than the constant need to pull battery SMH, the features are pretty sweet. Please fix those bugs so the ice cream can truly be deemed a wonka treat.

  • Gg

After updating to Ice Cream my phone now just randomly restarts every hour or so. It has also changed my location settings and will not let me change them back. I would not recommend downloading this upgrade, as I have found it to be quite a down grade.

  • Grayham

Not only is my phone now randomly restarting all the time, it will not send any text messages and the battery must be pulled because it just says sending and never does. There is a huge delay when typing and all of this begin right after upgrading to Ice Cream.

    • Lynewmail

i have the same problem with unexpectdly restartings especialy when talking on the phone, is there any crach reporting app to find out which app is creating the problem?
If somebody will discover the solution pls let us know it’ s so  annoying ….
      thanks in advance

  • Sachin Kakkar

I am also facing these issues after ICS Upgrade:
    1. Sometimes phone works very slow
    2. Caller ID won’t always work!  Numbers are shown but without names
    3. restart randomly
    4. huge delay when typing messages or email.
    5. battery drained very fast

I think GingerBread was much better than ICS.

    • Jimbob69r

I will 2nd those EXACT issues. Caller ID and personalized ringtones rarely work.

  • Guest

My battery drains very fast .. There are some days where my phone won’t charge at all . Sprint said i had to reset my phone , I did that and it charged for a couple days and then it started to act up all over again.

  • Denniscarr83

After the update my phone won’t send video messages, restarts on its own, drains battery very fast, won’t charge. How do I down grade??

  • Gilbert Olchondra

My arc s sleeps while browsing the internet. Its annoying I have to open the browser again and again before I completely read an article.

  • Zolot

The wifi hotspot doesnt work after I upgraded my Nexus S to Android4.0. It worked good with 2.3.6. Can I downgrade it?

    • Albuu

Same here. Cant connect to some wifis at all. Let us know if you find a fix to this.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1021195855 Lee Ajaye

My Nexus S works fine, but if I call someone, I usually can’t hear them, and they can’t here me. Is there a way to roll this thing back?

  • Xboosted

the sms notification shows there are messages even after they are red..

  • Zirch

I thought the Ice Cream Sandwich Update for my Nexus S was superb, later on, almost all of my apps crash! Not only that, when I call on Skype, it disconnects me and logs me off automatically, cannot make video call (recently), and I LOST 3G! The Ice Cream sandwich was a bad idea for an update. Ginger bread was WAY WAY BETTER! HELP!!!

  • http://www.facebook.com/tommi.artsx Tommi Artsx

It wont send and receive pictures :(

  • Tammy N21

I can’t send or receive mms files and even through email it takes a very long time for it to be sent out. Plus after the update to ice cream whenever I shoot a very short video (i.e. 30 sec) the video file is saved in such a large format (MB) rather than KB. Lastly, there’s no setting to change shooting mode as before. Ex. YouTube, MMS, etc…they seriously need to fix these or at least restore the former functions bcuz the way the camera app is running right now is very and I mean very inconvenient!

  • TJ Celt

I also have the same problems as Sachin, is there anyway we can complain to the android people or whomever about this so they get on it.  Most of the features from this update aren’t that hot and it’s sooooo frustrating having people text me and not having their names and pictures show up.  I have no idea who’s texting me!

  • Vj

I can’t type the recipient’s name when sending a SMS – the cursor does not flash, typing has a 10sec delay and once i enter a few letters the cursor keeps going to the end of the name. This is so frustrating – I’ve gone off Android recently – very unreliable experience with the Nexus S… great when it works, but it doesn’t work often enough!

    • Darraghb

       same here….

  • Descarroll

ICS is very frustrating.  I can’t sync with Microsoft Exchange (activesync) any more on Samsung Galaxy S2.  Gingerbread was better.  And I hate the way you now have to access Contacts from Phone calls.

  • Lance

I’m having the same texting problem as VJ. Extremely frustrating. Seems my entire phone is constantly bogged down as well. I’ve had my Nexus S since October, and it has only been a drag to use since the ICS update. Sure, it’s pretty,  but working smoothly is so much better.

  • Corbin

Mostly just modem crashes every 5-10 minutes… not too frustrating but means I have to reload some pages once the modem comes back on.  Some issues concerning volume control in certain apps.

  • Rajvee

All my apps seem to reset after 30 seconds. My video camera turns off as well. When I write an email a draft is saved every 30 seconds and same for when I’m writing in notepad. What’s going on?

  • Marclucien

Hey I upgraded a while ago and am actually really happy with it everything works fine except incoming texts does not tell me who they are otherwise has been perfect for me

  • Kelivantleven

Ever since the update my call quality has been bad. If someone is on a bluetooth I hear a lot of echoing back I hear myself echoing and its terrible. Never did this before the update.
