Apple takes a stab at the Droid Eris, HTC says they have no where near as many complaints

If you recall Apple’s pitiful attempt to turn the spotlight from their hardware issues, you might remember one of the devices used was the HTC Droid Eris. Apple is trying to shift the focus off of their mistakes by claiming it is an industry wide problem. While any device can have interference from the human body when in operation, it has never been on a scale of what iPhone 4 users are experiencing.

HTC has not issued an official statement as of yet, but they did give a some insight to Pocket-Lint.com on just how many users have complained about antenna issues on the Droid Eris. According to the Global Head of PR for HTC, Eric Lin “Approximately .016% of customers, . . . we have had very few complaints about signal or antenna problems on the Eris.”

HTC was one of several companies attacked by Apple during the spectacle, and I am sure we are going to see some hard repercussions in the short future over this. I personally have taken my Motorola Droid and covered it fully with my hands while on a call and never dropped a signal once. I also have no case or skin on my phone either so that’s not an issue. Have any of our readers had a signal issue with your phones? We would love to hear your feedback on the issue.

funny how Apple is going after an old phone that wasn’t even the focus of the Droid campaign.

I have a droid x and i can’t seem to replicate any type of.death grip anywhere on the device.

I have had 7 Android phones over the past two years and none of them suffered any signal loss when I held them left handed or right. Mr. Jobs is cracking under all of the pressure and that is what happens when you cut corners and then lie to your customers. It’s amazing the damage that corporate greed can cause and hopefully the other manufacturers can learn something from it.

I have some signal loss when I wrap my hands around my Desire as much as I can (except for the display). But it’s only like two bars.

I’m running the Milestone on 6th. month and I have never had an issue like that. I can’t replicate it. I think Jobs gotten too megalomaniac and now he can’t step down, and that’s why he tries to set the discourse that it’s an industry problem.

I have owned my G1 for 18 months and have never had any problems with the reception. I think what apple forgets is that your technology shouldn’t move backwards. I guess your advertisements shouldn’t outright lie about the clarity of your screen either… and you should probably pair with a carrier that doesn’t cut out when you are standing under their towers… or better yet, partner with more than one other company. I guess that’s why I don’t buy Apple or their brain trust.

If you can’t make calls while holding your phone – it’s not a phone; is it?

my att n1 does not drop bars with my hands on it. it does not drop calls either. when accused, pointing the finger at someone else is a classic courtroom strategy.

I own a Droid Eris and I haven’t had any problems with my antenna, phone reception, or dropped calls. I was on apple’s website and stumbled across the article that discussed the antenna problems of the Droid Eris and several other phones when you held the phones a certain way while being in a low service area. In there tests the eris went from 4 bars to 0. I tested it myself holding the same way they did and I had bars that bounced from 4 to 3 but nowhere near losing reception. And in a low service area I had 1 bar, held it they way the showed, and nothing changed. I even went as far as tightly covering the phone with both hands to see if I was even able to get my phone to lose service but nothing changed.
I find apple’s claims hard to believe and makes me question their “tests” entirely.
I usually like apple products and computers but I feel like they’re crossing the line here and not owning up to their own problems.

I tested Apple’s theory on my Eris and I am sad to say, oh wait…glad to say that I failed to recreate the simulation. Started with 2 bars ended with 2 bars after I death gripped my phone as Apple did on their website. Maybe the reason is that I don’t have a 100 million dollar chamber where I can tweak the signal any way I see fit. You see the phone in the video, but what you don’t see is Steve turning off the signal behind the camera. I wonder if Motorola will take this idiots rant sitting down.

all phones drop bars if you are in an area with bad reception. i bought and htc desire and tested in at home and no dropped bars but at work it was easy to get the bars to drop. just holding it made it happen.

i guess it all depends on the cell towers. i’ve had lots of other phones, from different brands and most of them had the same problem but only visible on some places with weak signal.

i have a friend who bough an iphone and has no issues with on where he lives. still, we went on a bike trip and, on some places, he could notice the problem. also, my htc desire had no signal at all on some of those places.

if htc was apple, it was already being called all sorts of bad things because of that. but they aren’t, so people dont talk about it.

    i think this is a non-issue, really.
