Remember that test photo that appeared for the Motorola RAZR? The folks at ThisIsMyNext received some inside info on this baby. It looks like it is headed to Verizon as a 4G LTE phone by the end of the year. We also reported that Motorola might be ditching the PenTile display, and that appears to be correct. This device has an industry first 4.3-inch 960×540 qHD Super AMOLED display. It is wrapped in Gorilla Glass and a Kevlar casing with a splash-guard coating. The processor is an unspecified 1.2GHz dual-core, which is most likely a TI OMAP. There is 1GB of RAM, and it will have an 8MP rear camera. The front camera is specified as HD, so it presumably will be at least 1280 x 720. It will most likely support custom docks, including the Lapdock.
Although we don’t have a picture of the About Screen, it is has been reported that it’s called the RAZR. The speculation is that this is the same phone as the rumored DROID HD or Spyder (codename). If this is the same phone, than I would think the “RAZR” name will stick because, in my opinion, a phone called the DROID HD should have at least a 1280 x 720 (720P) screen. Either the information given to ThisIsMyNext is incorrect, or they are still planning on a future device called the DROID HD. I suspect the latter. If only the source revealed the model number because it appears the DROID HD has a model number of XT912 according to Gameloft.
The other question is where does this leave the Dinara? It has been speculated that the Dinara is also the same phone as the DROID HD. We know that a Dinara exists, and that it will have a 13MP camera from this test photo, and it will presumably have an HD screen, which would make it more likely to be called the DROID HD. The problem is that my sources are telling me that this could wind up on AT&T, and we probably won’t see it till early 2012. It very well could be a CES announcement.
If you want more evidence that the DROID HD might be a different device, remember the leaked Motorola web pages from June? They showed a device referred to as the Slimline. The RAZR line has always represented thin or slim. At some point Motorola could have decided to resurrect the RAZR name for this device.
Now that HTC, LG, and Samsung are expected to have phones with HD screens by the end of the year, where does this leave Motorola? How can Motorola not have a 720P screen ready for 2011? Either way, it looks like we have the answer to what the other LTE phone will be for 2011.
