Barnes & Noble’s Nook Color is an all-around consumer favorite and between its 7-inch capacitive touch screen (1024×600 resolution) and Android 2.1 operating system, it doubles as a nice tablet option too (as long as you can follow a few hacking instructions). On that note, Digitimes, a Taiwanese trade publication, has recently reported that B&N will further incorporate tablet functionality such as email, music and other apps into its follow-up device said to be launching sometime this month.
Some listed hardware vendors for the device includes TPK Holdings to supply touch panels and Inventec for the assembly process. E Ink is also mentioned as providing e-paper back-plates for the next-gen Nook Color, which would make it one of the first devices to offer a color e-paper display with large market availability. This last bit of info is interesting, though doubtful as it doesn’t elevate its path of tablet potential. Overall, it’s too soon to tell exactly what to expect from this device, but details are sure to continue rolling out as its tentative launch nears.
Hit the break for a video of a developer running Honeycomb 3.0 on their Nook Color.
