The Android Dev Phone 1 Revealed

Google have announced the release of a new G1 handset built specifically for Android developers.

The new Android Dev Phone 1 is both SIM and hardware unlocked and is available to Android developers who have registered on the Android Market.

The Android Dev Phone 1 is a SIM-unlocked and hardware-unlocked device that is designed for advanced developers. The device ships with a system image that is fully compatible with Android 1.0, so you can rely on it when developing your applications. You can use any SIM in the device and can flash custom Android builds that will work with the unlocked bootloader. Unlike the bootloader on retail devices, the bootloader on the Android Dev Phone 1 does not enforce signed system images. The Android Dev Phone 1 should also appeal to developers who live outside of T-Mobile geographies.

The G1 developer phone is priced at $399, and is available in 18 international markets including the US, UK, Germany, Japan, India, Canada, France, Taiwan, Spain, Australia, Singapore, Switzerland, Netherlands, Austria, Sweden, Finland, Poland, and Hungary.

  2. Same, here. Excited registered in 15 sec, paid my $25 but $170 for shipping to Spain?? Come on! For now I’ll stay with my iPhone.

    Greetings,

    – Svet

  3. I agree with previous…
This is how much it will cost if you live in Sweden…
    $399 for the phone + $214.81 shipping + 25% tax = aprox. $770 or 6523 SEK with current rates.

That’s quite an expensive phone… Shame shame!

  4. If they released a version compatible with AT&T’s 3G network, they’d get my money…

any idea how long shipping takes, all ya’all android dev phone users?

  7. I ordered my phone last Tuesday and received it the next Monday here in The Netherlands. And yes, the shipping price is including customs and other taxes. It comes in an uninspiring no-frills package, perfect for us developers. ;-)

  8. I ordered the phone on Dec. 9th. Now, its the 18th and not even shipped.
    It seems to be late.

  9. Ordered mine about 12 days ago, arrived today. Works fine as a regular G-1 (am using AT&T SIM in the US) just had to enter the right settings (googled ‘em) for ATT. Nice.
Feel for you with the shipping costs though…

  10. Hi,
