In the quest for Battle Royale supremacy, two games have moved way ahead of the pack: PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and Fortnite. While PUBG undoubtedly has a substantial advantage regarding general realism, Fortnite took the opposite route and is breaking new ground with its innovative and fun approach. Each game has its inherent characteristics. Whether or not those are positive or negative ultimately depends on gamer preference.
Having been forces to be reckoned with for quite some time now both in the console and PC platforms, it was only a matter of time before one of them hopped onto mobile devices. Luckily for us, they both did. Here’s a blow-by-blow comparison of both games’ pros and cons on the mobile platform.
In This Corner: PUBG Mobile
PUBG’s success has been well-documented. The fact that its mobile version manages to pack all its nifty features into a tiny touchscreen device is a wonder on its own. PUBG Mobile gives players the real PUBG experience without sacrificing any of the characteristics that made it a success in the first place.
Be warned: PUBG makes use of bots to fill up positions when players don’t spawn to a server—the only letdown in an otherwise perfect game considering it was meant to be played against other people.
The main advantage that PUBG Mobile has over Fortnite Mobile concerning gameplay is that the former allows players the handy option to customize your controls however which way you like. It has the type of freedom that will enable players to raise their game level in their style of play.
The Overall Appeal
As it is in PC or console mode, the ultimate allure of PUBG lies in its realistic and militaristic approach. While there may be a bit of loss regarding character controllability (mobile devices are significantly smaller, after all), its transition into the mobile platform is a surprisingly welcome treat for those who prefer their chicken dinner on the go.
In This Corner: Fortnite Mobile
Fortnite Mobile’s release can be likened to the eruption of a long-dormant volcano. It hit the App Store by storm, and it hasn’t shown any signs of letting up any time soon. As the cross-platform move is often subject to hardware comparisons, it’s inevitable that graphics be a concern—especially with games as successful as Fortnite. The good news is that it passed that test.
Unlike in PUBG Mobile, you always play against real players on Fortnite Mobile. The bots prevalent in significant numbers in the former has been a hotly debated topic. The fact of the matter is that players want to play against other players. Putting bots into the equation takes a great deal away from the randomness of gameplay as well as the ultimate satisfaction of winning.
The Overall Appeal
The sheer freedom that Fortnite offers gamers is its main draw. If CS: GO and Minecraft were to have a Frankenstein-esque lovechild, Fortnite would be it. Its transition into the mobile platform is a smooth one and will surely win console gamers over—especially when they’re on the move. Also, there is much charisma in Fortnite’s character skins—as well as the memes that go along with them.
And the Winner is…
Up to you! Each game has unique quirks. Just the same, each one may have its weaknesses—depending on how you look at them. In the end, it all boils down to player preference. We can only wait to see which of these masterpieces will prove to have the longevity to stand the test of time.
So, here’s a suggestion: Why not enjoy the greatness of both games? Sure. It’s inevitable that two gaming giants be compared and endlessly debated upon. I, however, prefer to drive in both lanes and enjoy the ride as much as I can.
